Nikitaa Opens Up About Her New Song “Goddess” (Exclusive)

Recording artist Nikitaa is known for her ability to combine pop, R&B and traditional Indian elements from her culture to create her own unique sound that she calls “Goddess Pop.”

Recently, the talented singer-songwriter took that a step further and released her single “Goddess,” which received praise from Rolling Stone India.

“Goddess” is the follow-up to the singer’s recently released song “Clutch,” an infectious record that will take over your body and leave you wanting more.

Celeb Secrets caught up (virtually) with the artist to get her inspiration behind the single, and some of her upcoming music.Take a read at the full Q&A and make sure to keep up with Nikitaa by following her on Instagram at @nikitaathewild.

Celeb Secrets: What was the inspiration behind “Goddess?” What do you hope listeners take away?

Nikitaa: “‘Goddess’ was inspired by the confidence of any person who knows how to put themselves first and honors the feminine while doing so. When you step to a Goddess, you must be strong, honest, and honorable! That’s not always easy to do, but Goddess (the single) encourages everyone to do so in a very tongue in cheek way. I think I wrote it as a message for myself as much as I did for anyone else. As for what I hope listeners take away – one of my fans reached out to me the other day and told me she heard the single first thing in the morning, and thought to herself ‘this is what it must feel like to fully and wholly love yourself’ and that is EXACTLY what I hope listeners can take from ‘Goddess’ — confidence, honesty, self love!”

CS: What does it mean to be a ‘Goddess’ to you? How can others start to feel more like a ‘Goddess?’

N: “I think a lot of people think being a ‘Goddess’ is just about being confident, successful, alluring, sensual etc. Basically all the ‘positive’ qualities you see on the outside — things that are palpable and observable. The word itself has been thrown around the spiritual community for a while now. But if you call yourself a ‘Goddess,’ it means you take on ALL of what comes with it — the bigger challenges, even the emotions and experiences that most of us want to bury or repress, and the honest and raw accountability that you need to have for yourself and also those around you. A ‘Goddess’ is someone dedicated to developing the ability to push past the ego (that wants to remain on defense) and reach the authentic you – that wants to learn, grow, improve, adventure and free themselves in the ways that really matter; the part of you that practices openness and has compassion and love through it all. You can always feel like a ‘Goddess’ by radically and truly loving yourself! By investing in yourself! By showing up for yourself in very real, consistent and deep ways. And holding those around you to that same standard as well! A ‘Goddess’ to me is the defender of truth and empowerment, and so I feel we have more ‘Goddesses’ with us in these present times – fighting for truth and empowerment — than ever before.

CS: What was it like shooting the music video for ‘Goddess’ in comparison to ‘Clutch’?

N: “Shooting ‘Goddess’ took a lot more imagination and vision than shooting ‘Clutch’ did, in more ways than one. Although the setup for the shoot was very simplistic — just one backdrop, one look — piecing all the different ‘me’s’ and imagining that and keeping it in mind while performing for the camera was definitely a very different process than shooting ‘Clutch’ — which, as a video, fit better into the mold of a typical music video. I would say the biggest challenge was really editing and stitching all that footage together to look the way it did! I have had no real education or learning with professional editing software (I was using Premiere Pro for this) and so I had to learn a lot of things on the fly. It was overwhelming at times, but so fully worth all the effort!”

CS: Since we are Celeb Secrets, can you share any secrets about upcoming music?

N: “The upcoming music definitely has a theme running through it! I think everyone can expect a lot of magical and cosmically driven (and in some cases whimsical) song titles and metaphors throughout! But the titles themselves are secrets I’m going to have to continue to hold close to my chest for now!”
