Along with (finally!) entering adulthood, “spicy pisces” Olivia Rodrigo received one of the best birthday presents an 18-year-old could only dream of: a Saturday Night Live sketch surrounding her very own song, “drivers license!”
The sketch premiered on February 20th, the exact day of the singer/songwriters’ birthday! The sketch featured a group of guys playing a game of pool. SNL host of the week, Bridgerton’s Regé-Jean Page, selected “his” song on the old-timey jukebox before playing a game, which just so happened to be Rodrigo’s song, “drivers license.”
As the song plays and the guys are about to begin their game, they all seemingly pause, overcome with emotions as the guys begin to reflect on their past relationships. They discuss what they believe the meaning is behind the emotional track, mentioning the love triangle between Rodrigo, Joshua Bassett, and Sabrina Carpenter.
They also begin to argue and compare Rodrigo to artists like Billie Eilish and, of course, Taylor Swift. The sketch ends with the entire crew of guys getting together and singing their hearts out to the bridge of the song, one of them even crying in the middle of it.

Rodrigo took to Twitter to respond to the sketch with the utmost excitement. The High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star tweeted, “DRIVERS LICENSE SNL SKETCH IS THE BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER IM SHAKING.”
The sketch also caught the eye of Rodrigo’s HSMTMTS co-star (and rumored ex!), Bassett, aka who the entire world absolutely believes “drivers license” is about.

Bassett made his very own playful sketch on TikTok of his reaction to the SNL skit with Kacey Musgraves’, “Happy & Sad” playing in the background. This is the first time he’s made any acknowledgment of the song since posting it on his Instagram story the day of its release.
Just a few days after this skit, Rodrigo received another late birthday present. The artist broke Billboard records and made history on the Hot 100 chart! What a great way to start off being 18.
