We’ve been writing a lot,” shared the group.”It’s so cool that we have individually released our  own music before, so now that we’re writing together, we get to combine our styles and  create something new. Basically, we love H.E.R and Ariana Grande, but we also get  down with SWV and Earth, Wind, & Fire, so we like fusing elements of classic R&B with  elements of new alternative Pop/R&B.”

We recently caught up with Sheer Element (virtually) to hear all about starting their group, their mesmerizing chemistry, and original music. Check out the full Q&A below!

Celeb Secrets: Hi Sheer Element! Thanks for talking with us. Can you introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about yourselves for our readers who are just getting to know you?

Izzy Kaye: Hi! My name is Izzy Kaye, I’m a University of Southern California graduate, but I grew up in the little town of Sandpoint, Idaho. I’ve been humming tunes since before I  could talk, but I didn’t start performing until middle school.”

Tabon Ward: “My name is Tabon Ward, and I’m also a USC grad. I grew up in PG County, Maryland  and have been performing since I was a little kid. I started out playing drums, but I broke  too many drumsticks so I started singing and never turned back.”

JEJ Vinson: “I’m JEJ Vinson, I’m also a recent USC grad. My family has moved a lot, but we’ve been  in Los Angeles since 2015. I grew up surrounding myself with a lot of singing, so I’m  really happy that I get to do what I’ve always loved to do with my best friends. Apart  from music, I’m also a big foodie.”

CS: What inspired you to start a group and how did you decide on a name?

Sheer Element: “A chill night at Tabon’s apartment and a little bit of wine was what caused us to  make our first singing video – “Only 1” by Ariana Grande. We posted it for fun and it  went viral; that was when we realized we had something special. When deciding on a  name, we wanted to make sure it was unique and represented who we are as artists.  Sheer Element was what we came up with – “sheer” to describe our sleek vibe and musical arrangements, and “element” represents our unity together, whether that be our  blend when we sing or the insanely close friendship we all have!”

CS: We love your cover of “Pick Up Your Feelings.” What made you choose that song?

SE: Thank you so much! All of us have always been fans of Jazmine Sullivan’s music,  so when the song came out, we instantly fell in love with it. If you’ve been played before,  you’ve probably experienced feeling like you’re over it, and that your time’s been  wasted. It’s a frustrating situation, but it can also be very liberating to let go of someone  that doesn’t deserve you. We’re so inspired by how Jazmine immediately captivates you  emotionally every time she performs this song so we wanted to put our own spin on it.”

CS: Who are some other artists you like to cover?

SE: “We like to sing songs by so many different artists — from Beyoncé to Bruno Mars to  the BeeGees. We love singing R&B/Pop hits and putting our own spin on them.”

CS: Let’s talk about original music! Is there anything in the works? How would you  describe the sound?

SE: Yes! We’ve been writing a lot. It’s so cool that we have individually released our own music before, so now that we’re writing together, we get to combine our styles and  create something new. Basically, we love H.E.R and Ariana Grande, but we also get  down with SWV and Earth, Wind, & Fire, so we like fusing elements of classic R&B with  elements of new alternative Pop/R&B.”

CS: Lastly, we are Celeb Secrets. Can you share a secret talent that each of you has?

IK: “My secret talent is my Ariana Grande singing impression!”

TW: I used to perform ventriloquism acts when I was little at performing arts camps.”

JV: “When I was in elementary school, I was obsessed with coding overlay layouts  for this social media platform called Friendster and I honestly was really good at it too.”
