The rising star released a brand new single titled “Old House” today (January 27th), and we already know it is going to be the start to a very successful 2023.

After making waves on American Idol and moving to Nashville, Tennessee at the ripe age of eighteen to pursue her music career, Taylor has become a force to be reckoned with in the gospel, country AND pop scenes.

When referencing her musical style and goals as an artist, Taylor revealed to Celeb Secrets in an EXCLUSIVE interview, “I always want to write an encouraging message that the listener can relate to… I want to tell stories of hope and restoration and lyrics that bring life to any situation you may be going through. I want to give the listener encouragement to keep moving forward and never give up.”

This hot new track is no exception, fitting Laurel Taylor’s niche perfectly!

“Old House” is centered around a quote that reads “bringing up my past is like robbing a house that is empty.” After sharing the quote and explaining how it is essentially the backstory of the track, Taylor shared “Everyone has a past and their own ‘old house’ that they need to move away from.”

Celeb Secrets: For people who may not know you yet, can you explain your musical style and a little bit about who you are as an artist?

Laurel Taylor: “As an artist, my goal is to be uplifting and encouraging in the songs that I write and how I perform. My genre is a unique blend of gospel/country/pop.”

CS: Can you share a little bit about your musical beginnings?

LT: “I started out singing in church and taking piano lessons when I was young. I challenged myself to learn every instrument that I could get my hands on, since I play by ear. I started forcing myself to perform in front of crowds to gain the experience that I needed.”

CS: What has been the most memorable moment in your musical journey so far?

LT: “I was on American Idol season 14. That was a time that I will never forget! I got a golden ticket to go to Hollywood, and I learned so much from the judges.”

CS: Your single “Old House” came out TODAY (January 27th)! How does it feel knowing that you’ll have even more original music out in the world?

LT: “It’s super exciting! Nothing takes the place of a new song dropping that you’ve worked so hard to release.”

CS: Can you tell us a little bit about the meaning/story behind the song?

LT: “I saw a quote that said ‘bringing up my past is like robbing a house that is empty.’ It really meant a lot to me. Everyone has a past and their own ‘old house’ that they need to move away from.”

CS: Is there a certain lyric within “Old House” that you’re especially proud of?

LT: “Yes… ‘I told myself so many lies and I started to believe them. That those window shades could hide the shame and the hurt that I was feeling'”

CS: What does the process look like when you create a song? Are there any quirks to your method?

LT: “I usually have a melody in mind first, and I write the lyrics based on that. I always want to write an encouraging message that the listener can relate to.”

CS: Who/What are some of your musical inspirations either artist-wise or in your personal life?

LT: “My biggest musical inspiration is Vince Gil. I’ve been a huge fan since I was a child. He can play any instrument and is truly a great writer. Chris Stapleton is a big inspiration to me also. He writes raw and real life stories. Personally, my inspiration is Billy Graham. He never once backed down from sharing the gospel and didn’t waiver from what he believed in.”

CS: What stories do you want to tell through your songs in the future, and what message do you want fans to take away from your music?

LT: “I want to tell stories of hope and restoration and lyrics that bring life to any situation you may be going through. I want to give the listener encouragement to keep moving forward and never give up.”

CS: Is “Old House” part of an upcoming album/EP? If so, give us details!

LT: “‘Old House’ is my first single of 2023!”

CS: With the release of new music comes room for collaborations! Who is your dream collaboration?

LT:Carrie Underwood for sure! I would love to sing an old hymn with her like ‘Because He Lives’ or ‘How Great Thou Art.'”

CS: Do you have any other goals for yourself in 2023 career-wise?

LT: “I want to be one step closer to playing at the Grand Ole Opry!”

CS: Lastly, since we are Celeb Secrets, do you have any secrets about either yourself or your music that fans might not know?

LT: “I don’t really have secrets.. I’m truly an open book!”
