DC Comics fans are in for a very special treat today!
David F. Sandberg, director of the highly anticipated Shazam! sequel, took to Twitter early Monday morning (June 21) to post an official photo of the film’s cast in their new superhero costumes.
Sandberg decided to give fans an exclusive look in order to prevent any potential spoilers or image leaks. In the photo from left to right, we see actors Adam Brody (Freddy Freeman), Meagan Good (Darla Dudley), Ross Butler (Eugene Choi), Zachary Levi (Shazam), Grace Fulton (Mary Bromfield), and D.J. Cotrona (Pedro Peña).
The director captioned the tweet, “Don’t know how long we can keep the new suits from leaking so here’s a pic I took the other day.”

In the first Shazam! film, we were introduced to the story of a teenage Billy Batson (played by Asher Angel). Billy possesses the power of turning into an adult superhero (Levi) by saying the phrase, “Shazam!” At the end of the film, we see Billy’s foster siblings Freddy Freeman, Darla Dudley, Eugene Choi, Mary Bromfield, and Pedro Peña gain powers too.
A fan noticed that Fulton, the actress who plays Mary, was wearing the superhero suit. In the first movie, Fulton played the human version of Mary while a different actress played the superhero version. Sandberg confirmed that Fulton has taken over both roles in a tweet.
He said, “Yes, Grace now plays both parts. But her hair and makeup is slightly different when she’s super so nobody will ever recognize her. Hey, it works for Wonder Woman!”

Back in April, we reported that actresses Lucy Lui and Helen Mirren would be joining the sequel as villainous sisters. Additional plot details have yet to be released.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods is set to release on June 2, 2023.
