The Cast of ‘Joe Pickett’ Brings Complexity, Romance and Truth to Life in New Series (Exclusive)

The job of a game warden can be dangerous, and for the character of Joe Pickett, danger finds itself far beyond the wilderness of Wyoming right into his backyard. In the rural, gritty and captivating new series Joe Pickett, viewers are introduced to romance, mystery, murder and plot-thickening twists after Joe discovers a murder victim behind his house.

With an unsolved death now on his hands, a family to raise and a tactfully motivated town around him, Joe must navigate to the truth despite pushback from local law enforcement.

The must-see show is a Spectrum Originals inspired by the popular book series of the same name. For those looking for a bit of raw suspense, Joe Pickett truly offers something to enjoy.

The new television program, which is based off The New York Times #1 bestselling book series by C.J. Box, sports a luring plotline, picturesque views and an impressive cast list including Michael Dorman as Joe Pickett, Julianna Guill as Marybeth Pickett and Mustafa Speaks as Nate Romanowski.

As Joe hunts for answers on the unexplained murder, Celeb Secrets sought to hunt for answers on this must-see show. In an exclusive interview, Dorman, Guill and Speaks dish on what it what like to dive into these characters.

For Guill and Dorman, taking the characters off the novel pages and onto our screens can be credited to working together.

“Well, we were really very lucky to be able to draw from [C.J. Box’s] novels, on which the series is based, so for me, that was just a treasure trove of fun with every page learning something about Marybeth and then having the challenge of taking her off the page and out into this three-dimensional world and trying to make her my own and find this path. It became even easier when I met Michael and these characters became very real very fast.”

“I have to second that,” said Dorman. “Meeting Julianna was a real window into who these characters are, as was being in Calgary. The landscape there, the scenery really helped to find Joe and like Julianna said, there’s a lot to go off of the books.”

For Speaks, taking on the captivating character of Nate was like love at first sight. The actor shared that embodying Nate’s multi-level persona came with coming to love every piece of who Nate is.

“As soon as I read his words and his character on a page I fell in love with him,” said Speaks of his dynamic character Nate. ” And what I fell in love with was his heart, his integrity and then it doesn’t hurt to know that he’s a badass. You know he’s an ex-special [operations] soldier, a master falconer and you know this guy, he’s a survivalist.”

From holding these characters close to their heart to now holding the finished product just as close, the cast shared what they are most excited for viewers to see in this series.

“I’m most excited about Marybeth and Joe’s relationship,” Guill said. “I think it’s the dynamic and very honest portrayal of a marriage where these two people love each other. They don’t always see eye to eye but they always come back to the same level and try to communicate as best they can, even through their own hardships and shortcomings and they have a level of humor in even some of the darkest moments that is very compelling to me.”

“They always have each other’s back,” agreed Dorman. “It’s a really beautiful portrayal of what can be, what’s possible in terms of a loving relationship.”

The love shared amongst the Picketts is not the only love that will be found from this series. Speaks explained that when viewers immerse themselves in this new show, they will fall right into love with so many aspects.

“…Each person that lays eyes on Joe Pickett the series on Monday, December sixth is gonna fall in love with them and then the storylines that interweave and the relationships between the two, but particularly between Nate and Joe, watch that,” said Speaks.

Celeb Secrets sat down (virtually) with Guill, Dorman and Speaks to learn more about where the show was filmed and how they developed this masterpiece. Check out the full interview below!
