Tom Brady Challenges LeBron James to Ice Hockey Shootout

Football legend Tom Brady has challenged basketball legend LeBron James to a hockey shootout.

In what has already shaped up to be a thrilling NHL postseason, filled with wild shots and overtime routs, the two current icons of their respective sports are looking to get in on the action. In a friendly exchange on Twitter, Tom Brady quote-tweeted one of LeBron’s tweets, writing “You and me, 5 rounds, ice hockey shootout, who wins?”

LeBron replied to the tweet, which had amassed over 77,000 likes as of Tuesday evening. “Me but barely. May be swinging from my knees though,” LeBron replied, ensuring Brady that he would have the edge in the shootout. The reply garnered over 34,000 likes as of Tuesday evening.

Wanting to make this a reality, multiple NHL team accounts have already replied to the thread. The Tampa Bay Lightning, located in the same city as Brady’s Buccaneers, wrote “We could make this happen … you just let us know when.” More simply, the Columbus Blue Jackets replied with “We can set this up.”

EA Sports, the company that makes the NHL video games, also got in on the action. Jokingly, they replied with “Winner gets to be on the next cover,” poking fun at the idea of one of the two non-hockey athletes being on the cover of next year’s hockey game.

Round 2 of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs begins Tuesday night at 7 p.m. E.T., with the Tampa Bay Lightning taking on the cross-state rival Florida Panthers. At 9:30 p.m. E.T., the St. Louis Blues will take on the Colorado Avalanche, and the other two series will begin on Wednesday.
