Lo Shares Why She Wants Her Music To Make Listeners Confident – Exclusive

Pop singer/songwriter Lo is on a mission to deliver upbeat, fierce, and catchy songs that make you feel your best. Plus, she has a background as a dancer, so she knows exactly what kind of tunes make you groove! Celeb Secrets recently caught up with the artist to get her take on what she’s up to. Check out our exclusive Q & A below.

Celeb Secrets: It’s so cool that you combine your loves for both dance and music with your work! How important is it to you that listeners can dance to your songs?

Lo: SO important! I think music has a magical ability to transport people into a feeling or mindset for three minutes at a time — and my goal with my songs is to do just that — make people feel free, confident, and happy!

Celeb Secrets: Why do you personally strive to put out positive messages through your work?

Lo:I take my platform as an artist seriously and think often times we forget how impactful our words and songs can be. Knowing how much the music I listened to growing up shaped me, I hope to do that for someone else out there as well- to inspire someone in a difficult time, or to encourage them to be the amazing human they are! There is enough negativity and hardship out there- to me, music should be something that brings you joy and light and a little skip in your step!

Celeb Secrets: What do you hope listeners take away from your music?

Lo: Specifically with my latest single, “Good Good,” I hope listeners take away a sense of confidence and self assurance! Everyone of us deserves to know our self worth — and to even have a little sass when necessary.

Celeb Secrets: In a total dream universe, who would be some dream artists you’d love to collaborate with?

Lo: There are SO many incredible artists I admire, but some dream collaborations of mine would be Nicki Minaj, Qveen Herby, Ludacris, DNCE, Chainsmokers.

Celeb Secrets: Which artists would you say inspired your sound?

Lo:To be honest, I feel like I really discovered my ‘Lo’ sound when I stopped trying to emulate others. For the longest time, I wanted to be Ellie Goulding or Lana Del Ray or Katy Perry — but when I stopped trying to imitate what they were doing, and just focused on what poured out of me naturally — that’s when I feel like I really found myself sonically.

Celeb Secrets: If you could tell your childhood self about what you’re up to now, what would you say and how would she react?

Lo: This question makes me tear up because this is all I’ve ever wanted! I would say, “Hey girl — remember all those dreams you act out when nobody is home and you’re downstairs playing piano by yourself? They’re coming true!”

And then 8 year old me would either A) proceed to do the most wild and energetic happy dance you’ve ever seen, or B) tell me to shut up because she had to finish perfecting the song she was working on for her piano recital next week and those dreams would never come true if she couldn’t nail page 4 of the Pieckzonka Tarantella anyways! Haha!

Celeb Secrets: If you could go back to any decade to jam with some legendary artists, where would you transport yourself?

Lo: I would so want to jam out with Supertramp! I had a massive obsession with their work growing up and they are some of the most talented musicians of all time.

Celeb Secrets: Can you share 3 of your most-played songs on your playlist right now?

Lo: “Animal” by Trey Songz, “I Don’t Want It At All” by Kim Petras, and “Money” by House of Say –– they’re a Swedish indie pop duo I just discovered and am obsessed with!

Celeb Secrets: For Celeb Secrets, would you be able to share a fun secret most people wouldn’t know about you, perhaps about the recording process?

Lo: When I go in to record final vocals for a project, I need to be wearing pink and to be all dressed up, even if its just for me and the vocal booth. If I look fabulous… I sing fabulous!
