Netflix‘s Daytime Emmy-nominated series, Project Mc2, which has been recently renewed for a second and third season, is exactly that show. It follows four schoolgirls, McKeyla (Mika Abdalla), Adrienne (Victoria Vida), Bryden (Genneya Walton) and Camryn (Ysa Penarejo), as they are recruited to join the secret spy organization, NOV8 and must solve crimes and complete covert missions. Throughout the episodes, these four super smart and science-skilled girls prove that girls can, in fact, do well in math and science and they can succeed in male-dominated careers.
Ysa Penarejo, who plays Camryn Coyle on Project Mc2, chatted with us about the show and her character and which three females she would like to recruit for NOV8. Plus, she also discussed her upcoming movie Gibby, what she likes to do in her downtime and what she likes to bring to her dance competitions for good luck, so make sure to check out our exclusive Q&A with Penarejo below!

Celeb Secrets: When you’re not playing Camryn on Project Mc2, what do you like to do on your downtime?
Ysa Penarejo: “On my downtime, I love to relax! I’m really busy with school, dance, and acting so when I get that time to take a break, I love catching up with my friends and family or read a book. Sometimes, I have a mini spa day!”
Celeb Secrets: Not only are you a dancer and an actress, but you’re also a singer. Can we expect to hear music from you anytime soon?
Ysa Penarejo: “As much as I love singing, right now I’m focusing on school.”
Celeb Secrets: Can you tell us more about Project Mc2 and what we can expect from the upcoming episodes?
Ysa Penarejo: “Project MC2 is about four super smart girls that are secret agents who go on some crazy adventures. In the upcoming episodes, there will be some new characters, more exciting adventures, and new gadgets that are mind blowing!”
Ysa Penarejo: “I would choose Rowan Blanchard, Amandla Stenberg, and Tavi Gevinson. These girls are very inspirational and I believe that they would make great agents for NOV8!”
Celeb Secrets: What’s your favorite gadget that Camryn has created so far in the series?
Ysa Penarejo: “Oh man, I honestly love all of the gadgets that Cam creates. There is one specific gadget that stands out, but I can’t really say what it is. Here’s a hint! Cam builds something for a fair. What Cam builds for the fair would have to be my favorite gadget so far!”
Celeb Secrets: For our readers who have yet to see your show, why should they check it out?
Ysa Penarejo: “They should definitely check out the show because Project MC2 has a great message behind it. It shows girls that being different is what makes you an individual and that smart IS the new cool! With this message, I think those who haven’t seen it will love it!”
Ysa Penarejo: “Gibby is about this monkey who helps this girl, Katie, work through the hard times in her life. I play Alicia who is the mean girl in the movie. She is the equivalent to Regina George from Mean Girls. Alicia will do anything to make sure she’s the winner, no matter what the situation is. Even if it means she has to sabotage her rival, Katie. Alicia is one mean girl!”
Celeb Secrets: Other than Gibby and Project Mc2, are you working on any other projects right now?
Ysa Penarejo: “I have a few things in the mix right now, so keep your eyes open!”
Celeb Secrets: Since we are Celeb Secrets, do you have a secret or fun fact about yourself that you’d like to share?
Ysa Penarejo: “A fun fact about me is I believe in good luck charms! For example, I always bring my tiny pink turtle to dance competitions for good luck. Surprisingly, something awesome always happens whenever I bring my turtle!”
