The 2022 Grand Prix is taking off on Sunday, May 8, in sunny Miami, Florida, and it’s set to become the largest event in the city’s history.
Over 300,000 spectators are expected to attend the event, with hundreds of thousands more heading to Miami just to check out the scene. With this sudden uptick in demand, top hotels in the area are charging as much as $100,000 a night for suites, and restaurants are serving $3,000 dinners. Needless to say, this event will be no joke.
“This is going to be the biggest week in Miami history,” said restaurant owner Jeff Zalaznick. “We’ve never seen demand like this. It’s going to be a very hedonistic experience.”
The race, which is being held on a track circling Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins, will consist of 57 laps totaling 191 miles. In typical Miami fashion, an artificial beach and yacht club have also been built alongside the inner loop of the track, for the lavish and elite.

Not only are the prices for hotels and restaurants soaring, but the prices for the race itself are also way up there. As of Wednesday, May 4, the average ticket to attend the Grand Prix was $2,179, with other tickets soaring into the tens of thousands on StubHub.
“It feels to me very much like the Super Bowl, which is like the biggest event of the year,” McLaren CEO Zak Brown said of the Grand Prix. “Not only does everyone want to come to the Super Bowl to see the event, but the half-time show, the parties, the events is all a part of it. And [the Grand Prix is] off the charts.”
“Honestly, I think it’s worth $6,000 per person,” Zalaznick said. “We’re way ahead of where we projected we would be.”
