Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin are back with their latest single “2011” to help celebrate an exciting achievement for their band 5 Seconds of Summer.
The song pays tribute to the boys and the band, which was formed 10 years ago today (December 3).
Telling the story of how their life has changed since 5SOS formed, the fun and upbeat tune will have fans and listeners dancing from start to finish while giving them an inside look at who the band really is through heartfelt lyrics.
In addition to releasing “2011,” Luke, Calum, Michael and Ashton are hosting and performing at their massive global livestream “10-year celebration” event at 2pm PST/5pm EST. The show will be broadcast on YouTube (where the boys first got their start) and is free to any and all fans.
“This year, we’re celebrating 10 years of 5 Seconds of Summer. Single-handedly the best 10 years of our lives. So to honor every experience, lesson and person we’ve encountered we decided to make The 5 Seconds of Summer show,” said the band collectively in a recent press release.
“Something that captures the pursuit of creation, the love of the relationship we have with our fans and the endless boundary of what it means to be in a band. Above all else we were once again rediscovering how beautiful it is to be able to share our story together. Alongside that we will release a song called 2011 which is an homage to the past, and a nod to what we have in store for the future. We’ve loved every minute of being in this band. Here’s to another ten years of 5 Seconds of Summer.”
