December 3, 2011 – Playing Their First Live Show As A Band
Even though the guys started 5 Seconds of Summer late 2011, they wasted no time booking their first live show on December 3, 2011, at the Annandale Hotel which is a pub in their hometown of Sydney, Aus. Although there were reportedly only 12 people in the crowd, that night was the start of their live show career.
December 7, 2012: 5SOS Releases Their Debut EP
Before their breakout hit “She Looks So Perfect” in 2014, 5SOS released a four-track EP titled Somewhere New on December 7, 2012. It featured songs like “Beside You” and the buzzworthy “Out Of My Limit,” which were featured on both the band’s self-titled debut album and the deluxe Target version, respectively.
Somewhere New also featured writing credits from both Calum and Luke, which was a huge milestone for both artists.
November 21, 2013 – Band Sings with Capitol Records
On November 21, 2013 the band announced that they had signed to Capitol Records. This was a big step in their career because it allowed them to release music through a popular record label.
January 2014: Band Launches Hi or Hey Records
In January 2014, the growing band announced that they would be departing from Capitol Records to start their own record label called Hi or Hey Records which signed both 5 Seconds of Summer and Hey Violet.
2013-2015: 5SOS Tours with One Direction
Two boy-bands joined forces when they went on the “Take Me Home Tour.” 5 Seconds of Summer opened for One Direction on the 123 stop tour in 2013, but also opened for them again on their ”Where We Are Tour” in 2014 and their “On The Road Again Tour” in 2015.
February 18, 2014: Band Launches First-Ever North American Headlining Tour
The boys announced their first North American headlining tour which was the “Stars, Stripes and Maple Syrup Tour” on February 18, 2014. And performed their first show in San Francisco on April 11, with opening act Jackson Guthy.
2016: Band Lands Track on “Ghostbusters” Soundtrack
With a movie featuring big names like Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones, the 5 Seconds of Summer guys were able to hop onto the already star-packed Ghostbusters remake soundtrack with their song “Girls Talk Boys.” The soundtrack also features music by WALK THE MOON, Fall Out Boy, Elle King, and more.
September 15, 2017 – Band Plays Rock In Rio in Brazil
On September 15, 2017 the band joined artists like Maroon 5, The Blessed Madonna, Midland, and more to play on day one out of six at Rock in Rio festival at the Parque Olímpico, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
March 27, 2020 – Band Releases Fourth Studio Album “Calm”
On March 27, 2020 the band released their fourth studio album “Calm,” which was quick to become the band’s fifth top 10 album on the billboard 200 peaking at number 2 and staying on the charts for 9 weeks straight.
2021: Band Announces “No Shame” Tour
The award-winning band announced that they will be hitting the road again soon with their “No Shame Tour” which will visit cities in Latin America, North America, Europe, and Australia. Tour starts April 3, 2022 and tickets are available now on their website.
