74th Emmy Nominations: The Shocking Snubs and Exciting Nominees

The 74th Annual Emmy Awards nominations have officially been announced!

Melissa FumeroJB Smoove, and Television Academy Chairman and CEO Frank Scherma, announced this year’s nominees today, June 12. The Emmy Awards celebrate and honor actors, production, and those who work to create these amazing television series.

Leading in nominations was the television series, Succession, with an outstanding 25 nominations! Comedy-drama series’, Ted Lasso, and The White Lotus followed close behind with 20 nominations each. Fan-favorites, Only Murders in the Building got 17 nominations and Euphoria got a total of 16 nominations.

Actress Zendaya, who stars in the hit show Euphoria, became the youngest two-time lead acting nominee in history. Co-star, Sydney Sweeney, also snagged two Emmy nominations for her work in Euphoria and The White Lotus. This is Sweeney’s first time being nominated for an Emmy Award.

Abbott Elementary star,Quinta Brunson, who was also a first-time nominee made history in a big way! With her nominations for lead actress in a comedy series, outstanding comedy series, and writing for a comedy series, she became the first Black woman to earn three same-year nominations in comedy categories.

Now, despite all the exciting wins, there were some shocking snubs! Many believed Millie Bobby Brown and actress Sadie Sink would be nominated for their roles in Stranger Things, and although the show was nominated, none of the actors were. Another shocking snub comes in the lead actress in a comedy category because actress and singer Selena Gomez was unfortunately not nominated for her role in Only Murders in the Building. Despite this, Gomez was still nominated as an executive producer on the show.

With all the incredible talent nominated at this year’s award show, it is sure to be a memorable one! Fans can see who will take home the awards when the 74th Annual Emmy Awards airs live from the Microsoft Theater on Monday, September 12 (8:00 p.m..EST /5:00 p.m. PST) on NBC and streaming live for the first time on Peacock.
