Taylor Swift Makes History and Announces New Album at 2022 MTV VMAs

Taylor Swift knows her fans “All Too Well” knowing they’ve been waiting for another album from her.

While accepting her award for “Video of the Year” at the 2022 MTV VMAs, she announced a new album is coming October 21.

“I’m so honored to have been recognized alongside such amazing artists and directors in this category,” Swift said at the beginning of her acceptance speech. “I just want to say I’m so heartened by the fact that the first time in VMA history that four of the directors nominated in the Video Of The Year category are women.”

Not only was this a historic category because of the amount of women nominated, it was also historic because this was the third time Swift has taken home the award-– the other two for “Bad Blood” and “You Need To Calm Down” — making her the artist with the most Video of the Year Awards.

It’s also the longest music video to take home the award.

She continued, “You guys, I’m just so proud of what we made and I know with every second of this moment, we wouldn’t have been able to make this short film if it wasn’t for you, the fans. Because I wouldn’t be able to re-record my albums if it weren’t for you… You emboldened me to do that. I had sort of made up my mind that it might be a fun moment to tell you … my brand new album comes out October 21st. And I will tell you more at midnight.”

At midnight, Swift announced her new album, Midnights, on her social pages.

“Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life, will be out October 21. Meet me at midnight.”

“We lie awake in love and in fear, in turmoil and in tears. We stare at walls and drink until they speak back. We twist in our self-made cages and pray that we aren’t- right this minute- about to make some fateful life-altering mistake.”

She continued the post with, “This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching- hoping that just maybe, when the clock strikes twelve… we’ll meet ourselves.”
