Your First Look at Elle Woods Navigating the Ultimate ’90s High School Nightmare is Here – Watch the “Elle” Tailer Now

Dust off your butterfly clips and get ready to bend and snap all the way back to 1995. Prime Video has officially blessed the internet with the first full trailer and key art for Elle, the highly anticipated Legally Blonde prequel series. From the looks of it, this origin story is shaping up to be the ultimate nostalgic, high-fashion serotonin boost of the summer.

Before she was conquering Harvard Law in monogrammed pink leather, Elle Woods was just a teenage Gemini trying to survive the ultimately tragic social climate of the Pacific Northwest. The new footage gives fans a delicious sneak peek at our favorite heroine’s roots — proving that while the year might be different, Elle’s signature charm is entirely timeless.

Amazon MGM Studios

Produced by Amazon MGM Studios in association with Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, the eight-episode first season is set to make its world premiere on July 1, exclusively on Prime Video. The studio is clearly confident in its new blonde ambition, having already picked up the series for a second season ahead of its freshman debut.

The series stars newcomer Lexi Minetree, who beautifully channels the effervescent energy made famous by Witherspoon 25 years ago. The prequel meets a 1995 Elle Woods long before she becomes a fish out of water in the Ivy League. Instead, she is dealing with a much harsher environment: high school in Seattle.

After her parents uproot her from her sun-drenched, pastel paradise in Bel-Air, Elle is forced to bring her signature style to a dreary new school where the student body favors oversized flannel, muted tones, and judgmental side-eye.

Set to the iconic track of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl,” the trailer tracks Elle’s hilarious attempts to blend into the local culture—which includes rocking a pink-and-black Nirvana t-shirt. “What if I really am the vapid L.A. girl they all think I am?” Elle asks her mother in a moment of teenage self-doubt.

Her mom’s perfect response? “You know who you are? You’re a Gemini.”

Beyond the fashion crises and clashing subcultures, the trailer also delivers a major milestone for franchise history: the exact moment Elle is united with her legendary four-legged soulmate, Bruiser the Chihuahua, for the very first time.

Created by Laura Kittrell (High School, Insecure), who serves as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries, Elle boasts a powerhouse creative team. Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Amanda Brown, and Marc Platt are executive producing, ensuring the original movie’s DNA remains perfectly intact. Pitch Perfect mastermind Jason Moore directed the first two episodes.

Minetree is joined by a stellar main cast, including June Diane Raphael as Elle’s mother, Eva, and Tom Everett Scott as her father, Wyatt. The series also features an expansive ensemble including Chandler Kinney, David Burtka, and the late James Van Der Beek in recurring roles.

To celebrate the upcoming premiere and honor the milestone 25th anniversary of the original Legally Blonde film, Prime Video is bringing the prequel’s universe to the real world.

The studio has announced Elle World, a free, one-day immersive pop-up event in New York City. The experiential activation will feature exclusive merchandise, photo ops, and plenty of pink surprises. Reservations for the fan event open Wednesday, June 10, at 8:00 AM ET at ElleWorldNYC.com.

For those ready to stream, all eight episodes of Elle drop July 1 on Prime Video. But until then, you can watch the full trailer for the series below and let us know if you’re excited for its premiere by either leaving a reaction at the bottom of the post or by sliding into our DMs on Instagram at @celebsecrets.
