The “Dear Evan Hansen” Trailer Will Give You All the Feels (WATCH)

If you are looking for your next favorite tear-jerker, look no further. The Dear Evan Hansen trailer dropped this morning and will have you feeling all of your emotions whether you have seen the stage show or not.

The film follows depressed high school student Evan Hansen (Ben Platt) who writes a letter to himself for a therapy session only to have it stolen by bully Connor Murphy (Colton Ryan). When Connor kills himself that night, his parents (Amy Adams and Danny Pino) believe the letter is a suicide note written to Evan. Soon Evan catches himself in a lie while trying to help the grieving parents of a boy he didn’t know.

Having opened on Broadway in 2016, Dear Evan Hansen quickly became a hit musical and one of the most defining of the 2010s. Its modernness with technology and frank talk of suicide, depression and many other thoughts teenagers made it instantly popular amongst younger generations of theatergoers. It temporarily closed during the Broadway shutdown due to COVID-19, but is scheduled to resume performances on December 11, 2021.

The show was nominated for nine Tony Awards in 2017 and won six of them, including Best Musical. The film will feature the Tony and Grammy-winning score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who are also known for the work on The Greatest Showman and La La Land, the latter of which won them an Oscar.

Platt reprises his Tony Award-winning role of Evan, while the ensemble cast also features Ryan, Adams, Pino, Kaitlyn Dever, Amandla Stenberg, Nik Dodani and Julianne Moore. Stephen Chbosky (author and director of The Perks of Being a Wallflower) is the director.

Unfortunately, we have to wait until Sept. 24 to see the finished results but between this production team and cast, we can already tell that it is going to be one of the most talked about movies of the year.
