Country breakout star Griffen Palmer made his national TV debut (Feb. 6) on ABC’s The Bachelor. On the heels of inking a deal with Big Loud Records, the promising new artist performed his latest single, “Second Guessing” on Season 27.
Palmer made his grand appearance during a one-on-one date between Zach Shallcross and contestant Aly Jacobs. Following a jammed-packed day that included an exhilarating skydiving adventure and a champagne hot tub session, the two were pleasantly surprised with an intimate concert.
Palmer exclusively told Celeb Secrets that the couple was genuinely shocked to see him on stage. The Nashville-based artist said he was in on the secretive plan with the producers.
“It was a complete surprise. They set up the show really well for that,” revealed Palmer. “The band and I were downstairs in a basement hiding away. It took hours because they were talking and having such a great conversation. They really want them to spend that time together and make the connection. We had to be really quiet walking up, and the whole set was dark. When the song started to play on the date, that was really the first time they saw us. They were surprised…it was cool to see them react like that,” he added.

“They seem to genuinely really like each other, and I was really happy for them,” Palmer declared. “I got to chat with him for like two minutes after I was done performing. It seems like he really wants to have these real conversations and meet his best friend. I think that’s really important. I feel like his head’s in the right spot.”
Palmer knew precisely what to keep his eye out for, as he has been a member of Bachelor Nation for nearly a decade. The vocalist is a cousin to Jesse Palmer, the new host of “The Bachelor.” Before the former NFL quarterback filled Chris Harrison’s role, he appeared on the fifth season to find love himself.
“‘The Bachelor’ has been a really funny part of my family’s life.” shared the singer. “My cousin Jesse, who’s the host of the show, was the Bachelor [2004] back when I was a kid. So, I remember watching ‘The Bachelor’ with my family when I was eight years old. It’s been in my memory vault for as long as I can remember.”

He continued to admire his cousin’s success. Palmer was 25 at the time and did not propose to his top pick Jessica Bowlin. They dated for a month before calling it quits – making it one of the shortest relationships in Bachelor history.
“When I was a kid, he played football at the University of Florida, and then he played for the New York Giants. I remember traveling around as a kid to see him do all these cool things. I didn’t really understand the level that he was at. Now, I see it, and I’m like, ‘Wow. This is amazing. He has built such a crazy career for himself, and I’m really proud of him for that,” he shared before gushing about his cousin’s new role as host. “He’s so great at that, right? He’s very personable. He seems always to be with it and sincerely interested in the lives of all these people. I think he’s killing it. I think he’ll be able to do it for a long long time.”
When Palmer received the call to perform on “The Bachelor,” he hoped to keep the opportunity hush-hush and turn the filming process into a family affair.
“It was actually his birthday weekend when I was shooting the show. He was not on set when I was performing, but we got to meet up for coffee and hand out,” he said. “Initially, we were trying to keep it a surprise from him that I was on the show – it didn’t end up working out. He thinks it’s really cool that I got to be on this show with him. I think it’s cool too.”

Palmer is no stranger to the spotlight and reality TV, as he won Season 2 of NBC’s “Songland.”
He brought home the title with “Second Guessing,” the track he performed for Shallcross and Jacobs. The must-watch artist penned the love ballad alongside critically acclaimed songwriters Shane McAnally, Ester Dean, Andrew DeRoberts, Corey Crowder, Ryan Tedder, Ben Simonetti, Geoff Warburton, Florida Georgia Line’s Brian Kelley, and Tyler Hubbard.
The ear-grabbing melody that displays his witty wordplay and contagious country-pop sound – could be the theme song of “The Bachelor.” They heart-tugging lyrics convey a narrative about a man trying to find his special someone.
“Second Guessing” serves as the first taste of his forthcoming collection, due to drop in the Spring of 2023. Until fans receive his full-length album, they can catch him on tour with labelmate Lily Rose. The trek kicked off on Feb. 9 and is slated to wrap in late April.
