Witches, warlocks, forbidden romance and a boarding school where secrets can literally get you killed? Yeah, we’re listening.
The first teaser trailer for Coven Academy has officially arrived, giving fans their first real look at Freeform’s upcoming supernatural teen drama — and if you’ve been waiting for your next addictive TV obsession, this one might be worth adding to the watchlist.
Set in the haunted heart of New Orleans, Coven Academy centers on three teenage witches and their dangerously charming warlock counterparts as they navigate an elite magic boarding school where power is currency, secrets are lethal and attraction is a liability. Basically, the drama is already giving.
At the center of it all is Briar (Malina Pauli Weissman), a fiercely independent New Yorker who discovers she’s a witch and quickly finds herself pulled into a world filled with ancient supernatural conflicts, complicated relationships and mysteries surrounding her past.
And then there’s Jake (Malachi Barton), a magnetic warlock whose dangerous ambitions immediately add another layer of intrigue to the budding coven. The new teaser, set to Olivia Rodrigo’s “Brutal,” hints that whatever is brewing between Briar, Jake and the rest of the group is about to get very messy.
Joining them are Jordan Leftwich as Sasha, an empathic student who can read minds; Ora Duplass as Tegan, an irreverent witch with the ability to bend time; and Louis Thresher as Ollie, a hungry newly turned vampire.
Because apparently being a teenage witch isn’t enough — you also need vampires and mind readers thrown into the mix.
The supernatural ensemble gets even better with Tiffani Thiessen stepping into the role of Miss Graves, the formidable and glamorous head of the school, while Devon Sawa makes a special guest appearance as Mr. Cole, a brilliant and charismatic warlock professor. The recurring cast also includes Swayam Bhatia as McKenna, Brendon Tremblay as Alexander, Keegan Connor Tracy as Tamora, BJ Harrison as Agnes and Nathaniel Logan McIntyre as Teese.
Created by Tim Federle, the mind behind High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, “Coven Academy” is designed to be consumed in a bingeable new format, with the story unfolding across fast-paced chapters that promise to keep the mysteries — and the magic — moving.
So, when can we officially enroll? Coven Academy premieres Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. EDT/PDT on Freeform, with the full season arriving Oct. 2 on Disney+ and Hulu, as well as Freeform On Demand.
