Amanda Bynes wants out of her conservatorship as soon as possible.
The 35-year-old filed a petition with the Ventura County Superior Court on Wednesday (February 25) to try and end her conservatorship, which is set to end in 2023, after nearly nine years. Page Six was the first to report the news.
According to People, the Hairspray actress was placed in a conservatorship under her parents, Lyn and Rick Bynes in 2013 after Bynes was hospitalized and held on involuntary psychiatric hold after allegedly setting a driveway on fire.
Bynes’ attorney, David A. Esquibias, spoke to People about her conservatorship saying, “Amanda wishes to terminate her conservatorship. She believes her condition is improved and protection of the court is no longer necessary.” The magazine also reported that in April of last year, Esquibias said Bynes was “doing great.” Saying, “She lives by the beach, attends school and is enjoying meditation and Soul Cycle classes.”
Bynes is known for acting in movies She’s The Man and What A Girl Wants. The actress was last on-screen in 2010 when she starred in Easy A. Bynes’ has been out of the public eye for quite some time but is taking the next step toward freedom.

Britney Spears’ conservatorship, ending just last year, makes it known that it is possible. Page Six reports that Bynes’ first hearing is scheduled for March 22.
