Amanda Bynes is in the care of medical professionals.
According to NBC News, a close source reported (March 20) that the actress has been placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold. The incident comes nearly a year after a judge terminated her conservatorship.
Bynes was initially scheduled to appear at 90s Con in Connecticut over the weekend with her former All That co-stars. The child star was forced to skip the public appearance, after she had a psychotic episode, that left her naked and alone on the streets of downtown Los Angeles.
An eye-witness of the incident spoke out and said that Bynes was roaming the city indecent, when she waved down a car informing the driver she was “coming down” from a psychotic episode and needed help to call 911. Eventually, the award-winning actress borrowed their phone to call 911 herself.
Once law enforcement appeared at the scene, Bynes was taken into custody to a nearby police station. She was placed under a 5150 psych hold by a mental health team.
According to TMZ, she is currently hospitalized and is expected to stay there for a few days. A psychiatric hold typically only lasts 72 hours, but it can be prolonged.
Although the most recent event is obviously very alarming, Amanda seemed to be doing well for herself when the conservatorship first ended. Now it is quite uncertain whether her parents or legal counsel will intervene given her recent state.
Our hearts go out to the star’s well-being and to the loved ones around her. We are hoping for a speedy and well recovery for Bynes as she navigates the difficulties of managing mental health illnesses in the limelight.
