American Blonde Says New Single “You Look Better on the Way Out” Portrays Their Energy In Everyday Life (Exclusive)

In 2024, sister duos are in, and one you need to listen to right now is none other than American Blonde.

Composed of sisters Natalia (Nata) and Christina (Tinka) Morris, the talented relatives are introducing a new chapter of music to the world by releasing new song titled “You Look Better on the Way Out” today (April 12).

The sassy and tongue-in-cheek composition was written with Tess Frizell and Jimmy Nash, and is more uptempo than their previous releases. It also sets the scene for their highly-anticipated EP coming this fall.

“We love this song so much simply because it embodies our energy in everyday life, as well as on stage with its bubbly-fun, country-rockin’ rhythm and sassy lyrics. We feel like ‘You Look Better On the Way Out’ is the perfect song to jam to when you’re finally feeling confident enough to stand on your own and say goodbye to that person in your life that never treats you the way you deserve to be treated! It’s really a story of taking back one’s power from someone that has narcissistic tendencies. And we believe that is something worth feeling good about and celebrating in song form!” Tinka said in a statement.

You Look Better on the Way Out” is quoted as the song that “channels Nata’s excitingness as a drummer,” and trails off the heels of  “A Man Like You” and their most recent release “Why Girl” – a song glossed with encouraging women to have pride in oneself and the power to put an end to toxic relationships. They spoke about the making of the emotional song.

“We were trying to think of relatable topics to write about and I was like, ‘Hey, write a song about my backstory. I dated this really horrible guy. It was not worth the time of my life,” Tinka told Celeb Secrets Country writer Brianna Vacca at CRS 2024.

“We were trying to think of relatable topics to write about and I was like, ‘Hey, write a song about my backstory. I dated this really horrible guy. It was not worth the time of my life. Then Natalia was like, ‘I have a couple of friends going through that right now. I feel like everybody goes through it, especially as young girls. Sometimes you want to jump into a relationship and don’t know what the outcome is going to be, but you think it’s the right one. This song is to nudge you and be like, ‘Hey, you’re worth better. If it doesn’t feel right, it’s not for you,’” she continued.

“I’d like to call it an anthem. At the same time, the song is very uplifting and upbeat and fun. You can turn it up really loud and jam out ad sing along in the bathroom mirror. It’s a a theme to let you know to love yourself first, coming from a big sister kind of aspect,” Natalia added.

Their catalogue channels a wide array of personal influences, including the likes of Lainey Wilson, Grace Potter, Prince and Jelly Roll. The country duo country duo spoke about how they’ve crafted their sound.

“We grew up playing music at very young ages in the heart of the Mississippi Delta. That’s the birthplace of all American music, the blues. We started out playing blues music when we were very, very young. So we’ve noticed that some of the music that we’ve been writing here more recently, in our live shows, are going back to some of the roots that take you back home. We’ve got some more blues showing up in our latest singles and a little more rock but still got that country base. But we swing in and out of different other genres as well. We are definitely tapping into Grace Potter energy with our new music.”
