Annie Bosko Talks Redefining What It Means to Be a “Country Cowgirl” in New Track (Exclusive)

Forget what you think you know about California girls. Annie Bosko, Stone Country Records’ rising star, is rewriting the script with her sun-drenched vocals and authentic country roots, proving that cowboy boots and Pacific breezes are a perfect match.

With her new single “California Cowgirl” out today (April 4), and a Mane Stage spot at Stagecoach later this month (April 26), Annie is bringing her unique blend of West Coast cool and down-to-earth country to the forefront.

“California Cowgirl,” co-written by Bosko herself along with Jason Sellers, Terri Jo Box, and Lance Miller, and produced by Trent Willmon, isn’t just a song; it’s an anthem. It beautifully fuses traditional country storytelling with a West Coast flair, proving that country music has no geographic boundaries. As Annie puts it, “country is more than a place, it’s a way of life.”

Growing up as a third-generation farmer’s daughter in Ventura County, California, Annie’s childhood was steeped in the values of “hard work, faith and family” – classic country themes thriving under the California sun. She knows some people might stereotype Californians, but her music is here to set the record straight, celebrating the cowgirl spirit wherever it’s found.

“I’ve spent a lot of time in Nashville, and people always ask me if I’m really country because I’m from California,” she revealed to Celeb Secrets in an exclusive interview during CRS 2025 in Nashville back in February. “But if you’ve ever met a farmer’s daughter from the Central Valley, you know we’re just as tough as anyone from Texas or Tennessee.”

The song’s lyrics paint a vivid picture of a woman who can two-step as well as she can surf, someone who is as sweet as Tupelo honey but tough enough to hold her own anywhere. With a sound that blends ‘90s country influences with a fresh modern twist, the track is sure to resonate with listeners who’ve ever felt like they didn’t fit the typical country mold.

“I’m just a California cowgirl Homegrown as a Georgia peach Hold on, cause boy I betcha I can Texas two-step ya Right off your feet,” she sings.

When chatting with Celeb Secrets, Bosko explained how the song came to life. “I was in a writing session with Jason Sellers, Terri Jo Box, and Lance Miller, and I just blurted out, ‘I’m a California cowgirl.’ They all stopped and said, ‘That’s your song.’ It was one of those magic moments where you just know it’s meant to be.”

It’s a track practically made for blasting on a drive down PCH or two-stepping at Stagecoach. Think authentic country storytelling meets that undeniable California glow!

Speaking of Stagecoach, landing a spot on the Mane Stage on April 26th is a massive “bucket list” moment for this California native. After roughing it on an inflatable mattress during a previous festival visit, this year’s upgrade is well-deserved! It’s the perfect venue to unleash “California Cowgirl” and connect with fans – whether they’re lifelong country lovers or just embracing their inner cowgirl for the weekend.

“It’s surreal,” she told Celeb Secrets about her performance this year. “I used to dream about playing Stagecoach when I was just a kid writing songs in my bedroom. Now, I’m going to be standing on the same stage as some of my heroes. It’s proof that hard work and staying true to yourself pays off.”

Annie’s already making waves at Country radio. Her duet “Better Than You” with the iconic Joe Nichols has been lighting up the airwaves, landing in the top 5 most-added songs for five weeks straight. Working with Nichols was an “honor,” and Annie pushed herself vocally to match his incredible talent, focusing on conveying genuine passion in every line.

But Annie’s journey wasn’t overnight. She moved to Nashville nearly two decades ago, driven by her unique upbringing surrounded by farming and rodeo culture (though she was more of a trail rider herself!). Her deep connection to Western fashion is also genuine – she’s been a fan forever and loves seeing cowboy hats and boots become mainstream cool. From performing the National Anthem at Houston Rodeo to selling out the Troubadour and sharing stages with legends like Tim McGraw and Blake Shelton, Annie has been honing her craft and building her career with authenticity and style.

“At the end of the day, I just want people to hear my music and feel something real. I want them to know that no matter where they’re from, they can be country if they’ve got heart,” she explained.

The release of “California Cowgirl” and her Stagecoach debut are just the beginning of a big year. Fans can look forward to an album dropping this fall, featuring more collaborations. Annie approaches songwriting with a unique perspective, believing songs have “little spirits” and come into the world when the timing is right – sometimes years after the initial idea sparks.

With her radiant voice, compelling stories, and a fresh take on country music, Annie Bosko is an artist to watch. She’s embracing her roots, celebrating the cowgirl spirit in everyone, and proving that country music sounds really good with a California accent.
