The explosively competitive and turbo-charged Las Vegas DJ stakes are raised with the announcement that multi-platinum selling, six-time Grammy Award®-winning Epic Records artist BIG BOI has signed a year-long monthly residency at the Wynn Las Vegas daylife and nightlife venues for the 2016 season. Dates include: February 6th; March 12th; April 16th; June 22nd; August 20th; October 1st; November 12th; and December 10th.
At the same time, Big Grams, the quicksilver partnership of Big Boi and the groundbreaking genre-bending duo Phantogram (Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter), who released their self-titled BIG GRAMS studio debut LP in September, will be performing more than a dozen shows together across the U.S. over the next six months. Dates began January 29th at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, and wrap up with major festival gigs at Sasquatch 2016 in Washington state over Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29th; Governors Ball on Randall’s Island in New York City, June 3rd-5th; and Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Tennessee June 9th-12th. (Please see itinerary below.)
Wynn Las Vegas’ renowned Encore Beach Club, Surrender and XS nightclubs have been dominating the scene for years as home to the biggest electronic dance music artists, giving guests a unique and memorable experience nightly. Big Boi will join an array of chart-topping, award-winning DJs and producers this season that includes Alesso, Avicii, David Guetta, Diplo, Flosstradamus, Skrillex, Yellow Claw, and others. BIG GRAMS marks Big Boi’s first official release on Epic Records, after signing with the label in 2014. Phantogram and Big Boi collaborated previously on a handful of tracks from Big Boi’s second solo album, 2012’s Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, namely “CPU,” “Lines” and “Objectum Sexuality,” the latter also produced by Phantogram. Phantogram has released multiple EPs and two studio albums, which have produced two Top 10 alternative hits, “Black Out Days” and “Fall In Love.” The duo is signed to Republic Records.
The story of how the two iconic acts came together is modern music history at its best. Big Boi, a true music fan of all genres, was surfing the web and trying to close some pop-up ads when Phantogram’s “Mouthful of Diamonds” started auto-playing. Taken aback by their sound, Big Boi stopped what he was doing to Shazam the track, and figure out who it was. He liked it so much that he arranged for a meeting, and the collaboration was born. While the melding of their unique and individual sounds came together in the most organic way, it’s obvious that these three musicians were destined to join forces.
