Paramus’ own Ridgewood Country Club hosted The Northern Trust Tournament last week and it was more than just watching some of our favorite pros go head to head on flawless fairways.
On Tuesday, (August 21), kids from The First Tee of Metropolitan New York were able to take some swings of their own during the “Show Us Your Swing” event inside The First Tee Experience tent, and Celeb Secrets was there to witness it all.
Playing in a VIP Golf Simulator Driving Competition for charity, the kids had some pretty tough competition throughout the day. Former NFL MVP Boomer Esiason, Disney Channel actress Skai Jackson, Cleveland Cavaliers’ JR Smith, and The First Tee CEO Keith Dawkins joined the kids for some fun and surprising challenges while showcasing their golf skills.
“I never played golf in my life, but it was really fun learning today,” Skai Jackson told Celeb Secrets after the competition. “Just to see all the kids here too made it an amazing day. I love to give back whenever I can, and just to meet other people from different states is really awesome.”
“It was great getting to be here today,” Cleveland Cavaliers veteran guard JR Smith shared with Celeb Secrets. It was different for me because I’m coming from the basketball court to the golf course, and to see kids still recognize me and try golf because I’m playing golf is amazing too.”
“I have the golf bug right now and I’m loving it,” he continued. “My swing is alright. I’m a seven right now but I’m really trying to get that down.”
After the friendly round of swings, Dawkins talked to the kids, their parents, and other guests about how The First Tee is connecting with and positively impacting millions of kids each year through the game of golf.
