Brantley Gilbert Says He’ll Never Wait 3 Years to Put Out Another Project Ever Again (Exclusive)

“We’ve had a little more space in between records than most folks, and that was for a reason for a long time. People have transitioned to consuming music so differently these days, however, we still have diehards that want those 18 to 22 song monsters that tell a story and have a narrative. We knew coming into this one that [the process] was going to change a little bit, but it had to be right before it came out,” Gilbert tells Celeb Secrets reporter Juliet Schroder in a media session.

Sharing that he’s gone through a lot both professionally and personally during the creative process, Gilbert stressed that this collection includes songs that not only sounded good together, but also covered a wide variety of genre and influences that reflected his new chapter of his life.

“I think anybody that works with me will tell you I’m extremely picky, so we kind of turned into one of those things where we were trying a couple of different things. We were releasing a song for, for this reason or that reason, and we ended up with several songs being released before its release. I’m in a chapter real life right now  — and this may have a lot to do with being a dad now — but I don’t know half as much as I thought I did about anything and I tried to learn some lessons and patience [during this process].”

So Help Me God includes Gilbert’s newest single “Heaven By Then,” which features fellow country superstars Blake Shelton and Vince Gill. Set to make its way to Country radio very soon (November 14), the song — which serves as the album opener — highlights a way of life that can often feel like it’s disappearing, as the pace of everyday life continues to speed up.

“We were on a writing retreat in Texas that we do every year, and everybody was out on the porch. I don’t remember who threw a word in here or there and who didn’t, so, we ended up with a bunch of writers on ‘Heaven By Then,’” Gilbert notes in a statement. “And I love songs like that. It came out of a conversation. A guitar ended up in HARDY’s lap, which is usually a good sign that it’s about to turn into something special. I think we all knew that as it was being written. It came to life that night.”

“To have Blake Shelton and Vince Gill on the song meant so much to me. Those two brought so much to the table and gave it a voice I didn’t have. We were all in separate places when we recorded, but it was a cool way for everyone to put their spin on it. They just did what felt natural and sonically you hear that,” he concludes.

The record also houses nine other songs — all co-writen by Gilbert — featuring collaborators like Jason Aldean, Toby Keith and HARDY, as well as current tour mate Jelly Roll.

As for what’s next, Gilbert is set to take So Help Me God on the road in Middle America thanks to the Five Finger Death Punch tour with co-headliner Jelly Roll. The multi-city run kicked off on November 9 in Grand Rapids, Michigan — will make a stop in Lexington, Kentucky this evening — and hit other cities like Nashville, Charleston, Birmingham, Green Bay, Minneapolis, De Moines, Sioux Falls and Spokane before wrapping on December 17 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As for new music, the multi-platinum singer/songwriter confirms to CS Country that new tracks are on the way, and that he will never want to wait three years again for a new project.

“I don’t wanna give up too much by telling you this, but I wanna tell you this isn’t all of it,” Gilbert said in regards to new music. “There will be some more coming, and it will eventually be one of those big records; it’s just gonna be released a little differently than we’ve done in the past.”

“Moving forward, we’re looking at getting these things out way more frequently; it just took us a minute to get our ducks in a row. [During that time] I had things confirmed that were questionable — like how impatient I really am — and that I never want to wait three years in between projects again,” he concluded with a laugh.
