Budding artist Ross T is gearing up for the release of his debut album Wonderboy tomorrow (November 18), and Celeb Secrets has your first listen at the project’s upcoming single a day before its release!
The pop visionary exclusively previews “Shadow” with us today (November 17), which can be described as a “brooding pop ballad that reminisces on past loves and the misconnections that keep you up at night.” Featuring childhood friend and soulful newcomer Chelsi, the duo come together over a simple kick drum beat and guitar melody, seamlessly blending their voices into harmony that crescendos into a heartbreaking duet.
“‘Shadow’ is probably my favorite song on the album,” Ross tells Celeb Secrets. “My favorite part about this song is that it’s such a collaborative effort — My brother Evan wrote my verse, I wrote Chelsi’s verse, and Chelsi and I both wrote the bridge.”
While the song is special to Ross, it is a huge milestone for Chelsi, as it’s her first release ever as an artist! “Chelsi’s an absolute star. I’ve loved watching her grow as an artist from her first time ever recording in the studio to now,” he says.
“I sang choir with Chelsie in high school, she had one of the most angelic voices I’d ever heard and I always knew I’d make a song with her. When I hit her up, she had no songs, no artist name. We did a couple tracking sessions in my studio over the summer and it was perfect. We ended up writing the bridge together because we wanted the song to be longer because it was so good, and now it’s my favorite part of the song,” he adds.
For those who don’t know, Ross has been working behind the scenes in music for years, platforming up-and-coming drill artists in his successful podcast The Otherside, to learning to produce and write since high school. Now, Ross is finally putting himself in the front seat with the release of “Shadow” and his full-length project Wonderboy, which is available on all streaming platforms tomorrow (November 18).
