Let’s start at the very beginning. The couple first met back in 2014, as opening acts for Austin Mahone‘s tour. Cabello was in Fifth Harmony at the time, while Mendes had only a few singles under his belt, including “Life of the Party.”
In Mendes’ documentary, Shawn Mendes: In Wonder, the singer recalled their time together during the first tour.
“Camila, she was in Fifth Harmony and we were both opening my very first tour ever,” Mendes remembered. “She was the act after me. I was the first in the lineup, with the shortest set, and then they went on. Five years ago, man.”
Cabello, on the other hand, said how she never got to see or hang out with him during the tour.
“I never saw him that whole tour. He was constantly going in and out of his bus, playing guitar, writing songs with [frequent songwriting collaborator] Geoff [Warburton].”
