Caye’s Upcoming Album Titled “We Love” Is ‘Honest and Authentic to Who He Is Today’ (Exclusive)

Since entering the music scene in 2015, singer, songwriter and producer Caye has been experimenting with jazz, hip hop, calypso and reggae styles, creating songs that are truly like no other and ultimately developing a one-of-a-kind sound.

Most recently, the Boston native has been consistently releasing one single a month, beginning with “WE LOVE PT. 1” in July of 2022 and ending with “A DOOR” in January of 2023. These singles have been leading up to his full-length project We Love, which drops on all music streaming platforms tomorrow (February 3rd).

We Love is said to include “wavy didgeridoo lines, sultry piano melodies, high flying guitar solos and energetic basslines” that combine to create spectacular, cinematic music, and fans are EXTREMELY excited to hear the full album from start to finish.

When asked about the release of We Love, Caye revealed to Celeb Secrets in an exclusive interview, “It feels amazing, a bit scary, but mostly amazing. Up until this project, I hadn’t released music since 2020, and most of those songs were actually made well before then. It’s a never ending battle, because every time I put music out I feel like the stuff I’m currently working on is even better.”

“I can say that I am truly proud of of this album. I think that my now 13 years of experience writing and producing has given me the tools to finally be able to create true, pure, honest music. I feel it represents me and is honest and authentic to who I am today,” he added.

When the artist himself is “truly proud” of his work, we know that it will be nothing short of amazing! We seriously can’t wait to hear We Love for ourselves.

With the release of new music comes even more opportunities for live performances too!

Caye will be hitting the road in 2023 for his month-long We Love Tour, beginning on March 1st in Los Angeles and ending on April 1st in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and fans are sooooo excited.

When asked his goals for the new year, Caye revealed to us, “I want to play my best shows yet and dive a lot deeper into how to translate streaming records into immersive live experiences,” ultimately setting the tone for incredible performances on the way.

With support by Alt Bloom and Bensbeendead, the We Love Tour is sure to be unforgettable!

We can’t wait for We Love to hit all music streaming platforms tomorrow AND to catch Caye, Alt Bloom and Bensbeendead on the We Love Tour, but until then, be sure to check out our full Q&A with Caye below.

Celeb Secrets: For people who may not know you yet, can you explain your musical style and a little bit about who you are as an artist?

Caye: “I’m from Boston originally. I live in Santa Monica now. I’m originally classically trained, but I’ve experimented most heavily with jazz, hip hop, calypso and reggae. I would say my music is a culmination of all of those genres.”

CS: What has been the most memorable moment in your musical journey so far?

Caye: “That’s really tough. I don’t think I could possibly pick one moment that has been most memorable. A very memorable time though was when I went on a mobile studio tour with three of my really good friends. We rented an RV, set up a full studio in the bedroom, taped a monitor on the table that had Super Smash Bros running on it 24/7 and spent two weeks visiting different national parks in and around California while making great music. That trip was incredible.”

CS: Your debut album We Love comes out tomorrow! How does it feel knowing that you’ll have even more original music out in the world?

Caye: “It feels amazing, a bit scary, but mostly amazing. Up until this project, I hadn’t released music since 2020, and most of those songs were actually made well before then. It’s a never ending battle, because every time I put music out I feel like the stuff I’m currently working on is even better. I can say that I am truly proud of of this album. I think that my now 13 years of experience writing and producing has given me the tools to finally be able to create true, pure, honest music. I feel it represents me and is honest and authentic to who I am today.”

CS: Can you tell us a little bit about the meaning/story behind the album?

Caye: “For a while, I was doing a lot of production and writing work for other artists and companies. I started to feel unfulfilled with what I was creating, and it started to suck the life out of what I love to do. With all of the free time I had, I realized during the pandemic that I needed to push myself and make music for me again, so I started the journey of creating We Love. My lease was up in September of 2020, so my girlfriend, roommates and I decided to rent out month-long airbnbs in different areas around California. A lot of this album was created in those different places.”

CS: What is your favorite song on the album and why?

Caye: “That’s like asking to choose a favorite child — they’re all my babies. It goes through phases. Some days some of them just hit harder. It really depends on my mood when I go into listening.”

CS: Is there a certain lyric within this album that you’re especially proud of?

Caye: “I’m pretty proud of most of the lyrics on this project honestly. I think they’re the most honest to how I feel. Today I’m feeling the lyrics from ‘DOPAMINE,’ such as ‘I’m so addicted dopamine, eve sends me apples so I eat them,’ ‘I spend my lunch time on the screen all that bulls**t ain’t meant to feed you’ and ‘My life is powered by machines I need a charger just for breathing.'”

CS: This album was written AND produced almost entirely by you! How does it feel having so much creative control?

Caye: “It’s great. I’ve spent years working on my production skills so that I can fully convey my ideas. It also makes the whole process a lot easier not having to rely on other people’s schedules. That being said, I make my best music when I’m collaborating with my friends and the people I love. None of these songs would be where they are today with out the help of those people, so yes, control over the creative vision is nice, but being able to choose who I work with greatly outweighs that.”

CS: What does the process look like when you create a song? Are there any quirks to your method?

Caye: “I pretty much always start with a sound: chords, drums, a weird voice memo sample, a vocal note… Whatever that sound may be, and then I turn that into some sort of musical thing, whether its a full on produced track or just a single instrument. Then, I’ll improvise some melodies and start to carve out different lyrical ideas. For me, music has always been a way of expressing of emotion. I’ve always been better at expressing my feelings through sound rather than words. Once the feelings are in the form of sound, I’ll usually sit with it and give it some time before I’m able to put the sound into words and lyrics.”

CS: Who/What are some of your musical inspirations either artist-wise or in your personal life?

Caye: “Whenever I feel uninspired I usually go outside, take a walk, go surfing or go to the beach. Open spaces help a lot. I’m also inspired by my girlfriend and our connection, my friends, family and people in general, as well as the bigger questions in life. I feel like I could have been a philosopher…I’m always super intrigued by deeper conversations.”

CS: Who is your dream collaboration?

Caye: Bon Iver. Hands down. Would love to sit in and see how Justin and his band all work together.”

CS: Do you plan to play any live shows in 2023? If so, what can fans expect to see?

Caye: “Yes, I’ll be going on tour in March, and I plan to hopefully play some more shows in the summer and fall!”

CS: Do you have any goals for yourself in 2023 career-wise?

Caye: “Since I’m already hitting the road, I want to play my best shows yet and dive a lot deeper into how to translate streaming records into immersive live experiences.”

CS: Lastly, since we are Celeb Secrets, do you have any secrets about either yourself or your music that fans might not know?

Caye: “I’m working on a duo project with one of my best friends, AJ. That album is almost finished and is perhaps the most exciting music I’ve ever worked on.”
