Ryan Castro always knew he was destined for greatness!
Hailing from Medellín, Colombia, Ryan got the nickname “Cantante del ghetto” which translates to “artist of the ghetto” from his beloved neighborhood. He started singing at the age of 14 in nearby streets and bus stops. “I feel like singing in buses and on the streets it’s what really made me into who I am as an artist,” he tells Celeb Secrets.
It was those life lessons that he learned early on in life that molded Ryan into what he is now, a rising star. Ryan just wrapped up his first European tour and is currently on his first U.S. tour. His debut EP titled Reggaetonea pays homage to his Colombian roots and the fun, vibrant vibes he’s all about.
Ryan says this first EP, Reggaetonea holds a special place in his heart. “I’ve never dropped a project, album, nothing so being that this is my first one, it’s extra special. This EP is a good one. Good vibes, a good concept and I know people are enjoying it.”
And just as his music career continues to unfold, Ryan has already worked with artists he considers an inspiration. He teamed up with fellow Colombian reggaeton artist, J Balvin for the collaboration song, “Nivel de Perreo.”
In fact, he’s set to perform with Balvin at the 2022 MTV VMAs tonight (August 28). “To have the experience and opportunity like that is so big for me,” he shares. “I’m so thankful to J Balvin for allowing me to be a part of it. It’s things like this performing at the MTV VMAs that opens the doors for people like me form Colombia, Latin America and across the world. I’m so happy and I know I’m going to enjoy the special night.”
