If you are looking to add another movie to your watch list this summer, Tubi’s Magic Carpet Rides is the perfect rom-com that’ll get you laughing, smiling, and all in your feels.
The new film centers around a phone-addicted influencer with anxiety, Callie, who meets Leo, a carefree rebel, disconnected from the modern world. In a dysfunctional attempt to change each other, they end up changing themselves.
Celeb Secrets reporter Ariel Dorsey sat down with actress, writer, and producer and star of the film Nicole DuBois to talk about her experience on set, the inspirations behind the story, and the transition from creating content on social media to creating a film for the silver screen.
Magic Carpet Rides is also Nicole’s first major project credited as a writer and producer. Grateful for the opportunity, she says that her experience in content creating is what ultimately prepared her for this new role.
“I feel like I had a lot of the tools to be able to be ready for a project of this caliber,” Nicole tells Celeb Secrets. “I also learned about myself and my writing. Watching the script come to life and seeing what was really working was awesome.”

Just like her character Callie, influencing is not a foreign world for Nicole. Her followers on both TikTok and Instagram are constantly seeing the actress upload comedic content ranging from creative skits to funny parodies.
When asked about the connection between her and her character, Nicole spilled how the similarities made it easier to bring [Callie] to life. “I was entering this influencer world that I was never expecting to be in. There’s a lot of comedy and a lot of ridiculous things in that, so we wanted to bring all of that fun into the script,” she shared.
She elaborated more on her connection with Callie as she explained the importance for her character to be portrayed in a real way, where people can get a glimpse beyond the “stereotypical” influencer.
“There’s a lot I can identify with. There’s a lot that came from me, a lot of things were exaggerated from me,” the actress said. “We tried to really ground Callie and not do a stereotypical influencer character. It’s really different from what it actually feels like to be an influencer, and the anxieties that come along with that, and I think grounding the character in a place of ‘this is a real person’ not like ‘this is an influencer’ helped.”
With all the new experiences Nicole has under her belt, the film making transition is something she is excited to explore further in her career.
“The transition is really exciting,” she shared. “When you’re making content for TikTok, you are making something that’s 30 seconds long. You have to pitch someone right away, make them want to watch the rest of the video… it’s a whole different ball game.”
As exciting as it is for her to step more into the spotlight, the budding star shared how it’s been fun creating memories while filming while bring her friends along for the adventure.
“I mean the actors are hilarious and there is just such a playfulness to the friend group,” she revealed. “The friend group really felt like a friend group when we were filming. The energy was always so great in the room.”
Between the dynamic friendships, the comedy, and of course the romance, Magic Carpet Rides is a movie to watch. Plus, the creative juices from Nicole doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime in the future.
“The goal is just to continue creating,” Nicole emphasized. “I really love writing projects for myself to act in.”
