Dalton Dover Says New EP “Take Me Home: Covers” Shows His True Colors As An Artist and Songwriter (Exclusive)

Dalton Dover is getting real with his fans.

The rising country crooner shared his latest project Take Me Home: Covers via UMG Nashville/Mercury Records Nashville today (February 9), which takes the listener on a musical journey that pays homage to his roots while honoring some of the songs that laid the groundwork for the artist and songwriter he is today.

The three-song projects opens with an epic “Go Rest High On That Mountain” that features an epic collaboration between the 23-year-old and Country legend Vince Gill, followed by stunning renditions of Alabama‘s “Mountain Music” and John Denver‘s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

“With these songs, we’re kind of doing something that we haven’t really got to do, which is take people where I come from and what I used to listen to and still listen to today,” Dalton tells Celeb Secrets host Juliet Schroder exclusively in a virtual interview. “They’re songs that I feel like if I was going to my hometown bar or if I was sitting around a fire with my buddies or if I was just driving down the road in my truck… I’d be listening to all these songs.”

When choosing which songs he wanted to cover for this new project, Dalton tells Celeb Secrets that it “wasn’t hard” as he feels that each track truly shaped him into the artist and songwriter he is today. And while he really wanted to pay homage to the original, the 23-year-old made sure to put his own twist on things, which he says was “really cool.”

“We picked three songs that are me,” he shares. “It wasn’t hard to pick the songs and recording ’em. I just wanted it to be the best covers that they could be. You know, you gotta pay homage to the original, but I wanted to kind of do it my way and we did and I think it’s really cool.”

And while every moment making Take Me Home: Covers was truly memorable, the “Giving Up On That” singer says working with Gill for “Go Rest On That High Mountain” was his favorite as its something he never expected would come to fruition.

“My buddy passed away last year and I recorded my cover of ‘Go Rest High On That Mountain.’ I obviously thought of Vince singing [on the song], so when I met him at The Roman, I asked him to do it and he was all in,” Dalton recalls.

“He’s a legend, you know?” he continues. “I didn’t expect him to be like yeah, ‘I’ll do it.’ It was really cool and I couldn’t be more grateful.”

Dalton will wrap on April 27 at the Capitol Theatre in Macon, GA before playing multiple festivals in North America over the summer.

“I’m excited to go to all of [the cities]. Anywhere that I can go and show my music and sing to people that wanna listen, I’ll go. I’ll go anywhere,” he shares. “I’m just excited for the new fans and to meet my current fans. I feel like this year we played a lot of shows, but this year we’re taking everything that we learned and involving it in our new shows, so, it’s gonna be so great.”
