Dave Chappelle was attacked onstage last night (May 3) in Los Angeles.
The comedian was performing as the headliner for Netflix’s is a Joke: The Festival special, and authorities confirmed with NBC Los Angeles that Chappelle was performing when a man stormed the stage and lunged toward the comedian with a fake gun.
The man caused Chappelle to fall to the ground as the two began to scuffle. Isaiah Lee (23), who attacked Chappelle, was then pulled from the comedian by security.

A video showed security guards punching and kicking Lee, who was later taken to the hospital. Police reported that the weapon was a handgun replica with a blade attached. NBC Los Angeles confirmed that Chappelle was uninjured during the attack.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Lee has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon. His bond is set for $30,000.
After security removed Lee, Chappelle was brought back on stage to finish the rest of his set the The New York Times reports. Fellow comedian, Chris Rock, joined Chapelle onstage after the incident. Rock joked with a dig to his own incident saying, “Was that Will Smith?”
The New York Times also spoke to Chapelle’s representative, Carla Sims, who was glad the incident didn’t “overshadow the magic” of his performance.
