Elton John is showcasing himself to the world in a different light.
The 77-year-old pop superstar is teaming up with Disney+ for an original documentary titled Elton John: Never Too Late, and fans are able to get a first look as to what they can expect as the streaming giant debuted the official trailer earlier today (September 30).
With iconic concert footage from his career, the trailer features Elton John as he reflects on his extraordinary rise to success, the personal challenges he faced, and how his family has changed him.
Creating one of the most eclectic catalogues in music history, Elton John has been a staple of both the rock and pop genre for listeners of all ages. With albums that still are in heavy rotation, just how does the pop genius reflect on his journey to the top? After the singer’s Farewell, Yellow Brick Road Tour last year, the new documentary unlocks a never-before-seen look into the icon’s life and music.
According to Disney+, the documentary follows Sir Elton as he looks back on his life and the astonishing early days of his 50-year career in this emotionally charged, intimate and uplifting full-circle journey. As he prepares for his final concert in North America at Dodger Stadium, Elton takes us back in time and recounts the extraordinary highs and heartbreaking lows of his early years and how he overcame adversity, abuse and addiction to become the icon he is today. It will also feature a new original song from Elton John himself.
The film is directed by R.J. Cutler — who is known for his work on the Billie Eilish tour doc and The World’s a Little Blurry — and John’s husband David Furnish. It made the official selection on the Toronto Film Festival as well as BFI London Film Festival. While musician documentaries are in no short supply, it’s especially notable that Never Too Late is directed by Elton’s husband, making the project especially personal and exciting for viewers.
Elton John: Never Too Late will debut with a limited theatrical run on November 15 in the U.S. and U.K. before officially launching on Disney+ on December 13.
