Everything You Need to Know About the Magical World of Disney+’s “Percy Jackson and The Olympians”

Percy Jackson and The Olympians promises a thrilling journey through a world where ancient myths clash with modern life. At a star-studded press junket earlier this month (December 4), Celeb Secrets got an exclusive look into the making of this epic adventure.

Walker Scobell steps into the shoes of Percy Jackson, a demigod on a perilous quest across America to avert a mythical war. Scobell shared his excitement and the challenges of portraying a character balancing teenage life with heroic deeds.

When asked which parts of themselves they implemented into their characters, Scobell says, “I think Percy’s sense of humor. I have a very similar sense of humor to him.”

Leah Sava Jeffries, portraying the intelligent and courageous Annabeth Chase, spoke about her connection with Annabeth’s vulnerability and focus.

“I would take Annabeth’s vulnerability while bringing out the focusedness. I feel like I can definitely be focused, but have a deep sensitivity to me as well,” Jeffries emphasized, highlighting the depth of her character.

Aryan Simhadri, taking on the role of Grover Underwood, Percy’s loyal friend, discussed the importance of humor and heart in the narrative.

“For Grover, one of my favorite things about reading his character in the books was how connected he is to everyone that he cares about, which is a trait that I really admire in him, and it’s something that I really want to try and take from that character and put it into this story as much as possible,” Simhadri remarked.

“Also walking like a goat,” executive producer Dan Shotz jokingly chimed in. “Also walking like a goat, yeah,” says Simhadri playfully.

Creators Rick Riordan and Jon Steinberg, alongside a team of executive producers including Shotz, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, and James Bobin, delved into the challenges and triumphs of adapting Riordan’s best-selling book series. “I think you have to be extremely respectful of it. I think also at the same time you have to not be afraid of it,” Steinberg explained. “I think it’s a constant balancing act between a real sense of reverence for the material and a willingness to try stuff. I think having Rick and Becky on board makes that process possible.”

As the series navigates the trials and tribulations of demigods, it promises a blend of action, humor, and heartfelt moments. The creators and cast alike are eager for audiences to experience this magical world, hoping to inspire and entertain fans old and new. When asked which scene they were most excited for viewers to watch, they all responded with “the Ares fight.”
