Ever been love-bombed, ghosted, and left wondering what was even real? Grace Humphries gets it. And in her hauntingly honest new single, “Wanted You To Know,” the rising country-pop darling lays it all bare — and Celeb Secrets Country has your exclusive first listen today (May 15) before it hits streaming platforms tomorrow.
“You said you couldn’t wait to say ‘I do’ / The day before I saw you out with someone new…” she sings.
Yup, Grace went there. At just 17, the Texas Hill Country-based singer/songwriter is already showing off songwriting skills way beyond her years — and her latest release proves she’s a name you need to remember.
“‘Wanted You To Know’ is about the emotional whiplash of modern love — the kind where someone promises forever, and then vanishes the next day,” Grace tells Celeb Secrets Country in an exclusive interview. “I was inspired by women on TikTok talking about how they were completely blindsided after being told, ‘I can’t wait to get married,’ only to be dumped days later. That heartbreak — it leaves you confused, angry, and still in love, all at once.”
That bittersweet emotional tangle is at the heart of the track. Grace’s soft-yet-bold vocals paired with her warm acoustic guitar create a sense of intimacy that pulls you in and doesn’t let go. But it’s her clever, cut-deep lyrics — full of raw contradictions — that make this song sting in the best way. She sings:
“Our pictures on the wall are torn…” shifts to “I tried to fix those pictures torn…”
“I’m happy and alone…” becomes “I’m not happy, I’m alone.”
We’re not crying, you are.
Born with a natural instinct for melody (literally — she was humming in her crib), Grace has always felt the pull of music. A mostly self-taught multi-instrumentalist (piano, guitar, and songwriting wizardry included), she crafts songs that reflect the fragility, beauty, and realness of life. And while heartbreak might be her muse this time, her artistry runs so much deeper.
Grace’s musical journey began in California, where she was raised until the tragic loss of her older brother Liam at just 10 years old. After relocating to Texas, music became her outlet — and eventually, her calling.
Now? She’s racking up wins like a seasoned pro. She’s earned First Soprano at the All-State choir competition, a two-time TAPPS winner (including for her original “I Am Found”) and has embarked on radio tours across the South, live NPR sessions, and — casual flex — recording at Abbey Road Studios in the UK. And did we mention she’s still in high school?
Whether she’s performing hour-long sets at wineries (iconic), leading worship at her local church, or sneaking songwriting sessions into study breaks, Grace is putting in the work — and she’s doing it with passion, poise, and purpose.
“I just want to be happy doing what I love: storytelling and performing,” she says. “Writing music that is meaningful and connects with people in a very real way.”
Mission so accomplished with “Wanted You To Know.” It’s not just a breakup anthem — it’s a testament to the strength it takes to feel everything and still keep going.
So whether you’re healing, reflecting, or just want a good cry-in-the-car moment, Grace Humphries has your back — and your heart.
