Genevieve Fisher Opens Up About Recording New Single “Now We’re Talking” While Six Months Pregnant (Exclusive)

Genevieve Fisher is in her best era yet!

The Canadian country singer is more confident than ever, resulting in the opportunity to be more vulnerable in her latest songs.

“Being a mom to my two boys is the greatest joy of my life. They’re inspiring new music, and I feel like I’m the most authentic I’ve ever been in my life. I’m writing music that I love, and I want my fans to see my vulnerability. It’s like I’ve blossomed into this whole new person, and I love that for myself,” the new boy mom of two tells Celeb Secrets exclusively. “I also feel more confident; which I think is a reflection on becoming a mom. I want to be a good example for my sons. Show them what hard work and confidence looks like!”

Fans of Fisher can hear her authenticity through her latest single “Now We’re Talking,” which is currently being spun on SiriusXM’s “Top of the Country.” Written by MacKenzie PorterSteven Lee OlsenJason Massey and Lydia Vaughan, “Now We’re Talking” was a track that Genevieve knew she had to cut, as she fell in love with every aspect of it from the minute she heard a demo.

“I honestly fell in love with every aspect of this song. The lyrics, the melodies/hook, and the rhythm/pacing of the vocals; it all just really stood out to me and had a uniqueness about it!” she shares.

Making sure to finish a majority of her music before her son was born, Genevieve recorded “Now We’re Talking” while six months pregnant. When speaking with Celeb Secrets all about her day in the studio, the proud mom said that her favorite — yet crazy — memory was when she hit the high harms as it quite literally almost put her into labor. The best part? The entire moment was captured on voice memos, which her producer sent back her for a good laugh.

“My most favourite memory was the fact that I was about 6 months pregnant recording the vocals in my closet! Singing while pregnant gets a little tough as your belly grows and the baby starts pushing on your diaphragm. I fondly remember singing the high harms for the song which felt like a work out! I let out a huge breath when I was done singing and said ‘I feel like this baby is gonna fall out of me!!’ I forgot that I was still recording, and sent the tracks off to my producer. A day later, I got a text from him with a voice note on it, and it was of me saying that. He was cracking up. I was so embarrassed haha! But none the less, a great/funny memory!” she says.

Celeb Secrets: For those who aren’t familiar with you or your music, how would you describe yourself to our readers?

Genevieve Fisher: “I’m an easy going gal who loves her family and friends! I love deeply and enjoy the simple things in life! I’m a big foodie and enjoy a delicious meal with a good glass of wine! I’m married with two boys; we’re raising our family in the country on a little piece of land and I’m truly grateful for the life I live! Music is also the centre of my universe and I feel so lucky to be making a living doing what I love!”

CS: Can you briefly touch on your musical beginnings and influences and how they led you to where you are now?

GF: “I grew up listening to all different genres of music, but fell in love with country at a young age. I have many fond memories listening to country radio at my Nana’s house. Shania Twain stands out to me as one of my earliest influences. I actually sang “Any Man of Mine” at a talent competition when I was about 6 years old! When Taylor Swift became popular I remember listening to her first album on repeat! She was a big influence on me; especially her songwriting. Obviously those two influences led me to wanting a career in country music and focusing on writing my own music.”

CS: You have a new single out right now called “Now We’re Talking” — how does it feel knowing that the track that you’ve worked so hard on is finally here for people to listen to?

GF: “It’s always an amazing feeling getting new music out to the world! This one has been in the works for a while; so it’s especially exciting. My producer sent me the song back in in August of 2023, and I recorded it in September/October. I was pregnant at the time, so I wanted to make sure I had everything ready to go for this release before the birth of my son.”

CS: Can you touch more on the track’s sound, what it’s about and what made you want to record “Now We’re Talking?”

GF: “I honestly fell in love with every aspect of this song. The lyrics, the melodies/hook, and the rhythm/pacing of the vocals; it all just really stood out to me and had a uniqueness about it!”

CS: Do you have any favorite memories from recording the song?

GF: “My most favourite memory was the fact that I was about 6 months pregnant recording the vocals in my closet! CS: We know that the song is kicking off a year of new music for you. If you could describe the era that you’re in right now personally/professionally, what would it be?

GF: “I’m definitely in my mom/family era right now which I’m fully embracing and absolutely loving! Being a mom to my two boys is the greatest joy of my life. They’re inspiring new music, and I feel like I’m the most authentic I’ve ever been in my life. I’m writing music that I love, and I want my fans to see my vulnerability. It’s like I’ve blossomed into this whole new person, and I love that for myself. I also feel more confident; which I think is a reflection on becoming a mom. I want to be a good example for my sons. Show them what hard work and confidence looks like!”

CS: How is “Now We’re Talking” setting the precedent for what’s to come from your music this year? What can you tease in terms of new releases?

GF: “The first time I heard the song, the lyrics really stood out to me because of how much I could relate to them. It literally tells mine and my husbands love story. We were and still are absolutely head over heels for each other. We met in a bar, met each others families, moved in together, got engaged, married and now have two children together. All of this is talked about in the song. A lot of the songs I’ve been writing and plan to release, relate to some sort of aspect and/or time of my life. I’ve been writing a lot about mine and my husbands love story and our life together. I wrote a song with my friends Shantaia and Mal Johnson called ‘Stopped Looking’ and it has a very Chris Stapleton vibe; I can’t wait for people to hear it!”

CS: With so many accomplishments and accolades already to your name, what goals are you setting for yourself in 2024?

GF: “Goals I’m setting are: being more active on my socials, writing more, and honestly just trying to get my name out there again! Having kids has made it a little bit difficult to focus solely on my career and I won’t lie, I feel like I’ve fallen behind a little bit. They’re only little for so long, and I don’t want to miss out on this time of their life. I want to make sure I have a good balance of work and family life this year, but I can tell it’s going to be an amazing one!”

CS: Since we’re Celeb Secrets, do you have any secrets about yourself that we wouldn’t know about just by listening to your music or following you on social media?

GF: “This one is tough because I do try to share a lot of my life on my socials, but a fun fact is that I LOVE interior design and love to cook. If I didn’t have a career in music, I think I’d be doing something with interior design or maybe something in the culinary industry! You can usually find me in my kitchen creating or re-creating some delicious dishes! My friend (who happens to be a chocolatier) and I have joked about creating a cooking show on our socials where we make a dish talk about life while we cook! Maybe thats a little project I’ll take on this year! Stay tuned!”
