There’s a new face entering the world of R&B, and her name is Dajah Dorn.
Hailing from the north side of Jacksonville, Florida and now living in New York City, Dajah weaves together her diverse musical influences and personal experiences to create a sound that is not only uniquely hers, but also one that you need to add to your playlists ASAP.
“I was born in the 90s and grew up listening to all the R&B divas, and that’s when hip-hop and R&B started to blend more. Mary J. Blige and Monica are some of my favorite people, and they would sing over a hip-hop beat, so I kind of have that in me,” Dajah tells Celeb Secrets of her musical influences in an exclusive interview. “I would write poems and then I started rapping them. When I started to learn how to write better as a singer, I realized that I don’t have to use as many words as rappers use because I’m singing and I can just stretch it out, so I kind of have a blend of hip-hop in what I do, and of course, my favorite style, gospel. I got a little rock in me too, because I love screaming on tracks. I grew up on all those things.”

Crediting her grandmother for taking her to church and introducing her to singing in choir when she was younger, Dajah tells Celeb Secrets that music was something she always thought about pursuing but never did as she “used to be afraid to sing.” But when she moved to New York right before the pandemic to pursue modeling, she received a calling from God letting her know that her time to begin her professional journey as a musician was here.
“I used to be afraid to sing on my own with people looking at me, so I didn’t take it seriously until the pandemic happened. I was like, ‘ok, I get the message. God is letting me do what I’m supposed to do.’ No none knew what was going to happen in the world, so I got really serious [about music] during the pandemic,” she reveals.
“When I first moved to New York, I already knew my plan because my background is in modeling, so I decided on modeling first so people would get used to looking at me before releasing music, and the pandemic was that nudge to be like, ‘okay, I’m eventually going to get there.'”

Since pursuing music professionally, the 29-year-old has released two original songs via Vinyl Crown Recordings, which both offer a glimpse into her unique narrative that’s bound to take the world of R&B by storm sooner rather than later.
Speaking on her debut track “I Don’t Want You,” Dajah reveals, “[‘I Don’t Want You’] came about from an old relationship that I was in. It’s funny, because it was like such a gap between when the relationship ended and when I wrote the song. It wasn’t like, ‘I’m finna write a song about him.’ It just ended up being that way, so that what I related it to. It’s about a college relationship and moving on from it… just growing as a woman.”
Knowing that she had big shoes to fill after receiving critical acclaim from music critics and fans around the world, Dajah continued telling her story with “Twice On Sunday,” which she says is all about manifesting what she wants in a healthy relationship.
“I don’t want to make music that’s like ‘men are trash.’ I don’t want to encourage anybody to stay toxic. I want to encourage them to recognize it and move on, but still in like a, you know, sassy, whatever kind of way. So with ‘Twice on Sunday,’ I’m not talking about anybody in particular. I’m just manifesting what I want in a relationship,” she says.
“I wrote about something that hasn’t happened yet, but I’m open to it. I’m chilling right now and having fun. Like I grew up in a very serious household, with very serious situations going on, so I just finally started having fun with myself. I ain’t worried about nobody; I’ll find him. He’ll find me,” she concludes.
Today (July 26), Dajah continues her journey with the release of her new single “Love U 4 Free,” which you can hear wherever you stream music. Bringing the ultimate summer vibes thanks to its danceable beat and flirty lyrics, the song, in her own words, is “all about loving through any circumstance and trusting the freedom that comes with that.”
“I’m a lover girl so my music is always going to mention love in some way. After releasing my first 2 singles, my team and I knew the next thing we needed was something light and fun that you could dance to and “Love U 4 Free” was created,” Dajah shares in a press release.
Sharing that a debut project titled Having My Way will drop later this fall, Dajah promises that it will be her best work ever, as her ultimate goal is to “be consistent” and “do it right.”
