Halle Bailey Shares Emotional Post About Wrapping on “The Little Mermaid”

The live action remake of Disney’s The Little Mermaid has officially wrapped filming!

The film’s leading star, Halle Bailey, celebrated the momentous occasion with an emotional post to Instagram. The photo shows Bailey smiling as she lies in the ocean shore with a picturesque sunset behind her. If you look closely, you can even see a glimpse of her mermaid costume.

In the caption, Bailey details her extensive journey with auditioning, booking the role, and filming during the pandemic. She says that she auditioned when she was 18 going on 19 and finished a few months after turning 21. “We have finally made it,” she says.

The “Ungodly Hour” singer notes how difficult of a transition the experience was for her. She talks about how hard it was leaving everything she knows all while feeling lonely and doubtful about herself. However, she recognizes the feeling of “freedom and perseverance” that she learned while working on the movie. She says, “This experience has made me so much stronger than I ever thought I could be.”

Bailey thanks the cast and crew for their generosity and warm welcome. She calls her co-star, Jonah Hauer-King (Prince Eric), “my friend for infinite lifetimes.” She also shouts out her fellow cast members such as Jacob Tremblay (Flounder), Daveed Diggs (Sebastian), Melissa McCarthy (Ursula), Awkwafina (Scuttle), and Javier Bardem (King Triton).

The actress concludes her post by expressing her excitement for everyone to see the movie. She says, “I cannot wait for time to speed up so you all can watch this film because it was made with so much love (plus blood sweat and tears) lol thank you sardinia for a wonderful ending!!! xoxo.”

Bailey’s sister, Chloe Bailey, posted a sweet message to Twitter in response to her sister’s accomplishment. She posted a photo of her and Halle swimming with the caption, “I love you so much and I am SO PROUD OF YOU my halle 🥺❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.” Halle responded with a quote tweet and said, “thank you sissy 🥺💞💞✨✨.”

The Little Mermaid remake is directed by Rob Marshall. It will feature music from the original 1989 film and new music from Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda. A release date has yet to be announced.
