Harper Grace Says She “Knows The Proper Way To Break A Heart” in New Single “Break It Like A Man” (Listen)

Harper Grace is officially leaving her redemption era and entering her sassy era thanks to her new single “Break It Like A Man.”

The song, which dropped on music streaming platforms last Friday (April 12) is all about breaking hearts the ole fashion way — in person.

When catching up with Celeb Secrets reporter Brianna Vacca at CRS 2024 earlier this year, Harper says of the song’s inception, “We were chatting about people being easily capable of sending a text and ghosting you. We were talking about if we could write something to help ‘em out, at least let ‘em know the proper way to break a heart. Say it to our faces, you know? ‘Cause we can take it.”

“I’m looking forward to seeing what other people think about it and what the fans think of it,” she adds.

The Texas-born singer/songwriter wrote the sassy tune with Alex Kline and Scott Stepakoff. Kline, Cooper Bascom and Tedd T produced the song, while Collective Films produced and directed the music video, which Grace says she has “so much fun” co-directing.

“I got to co-direct the music video too and put a lot of my creative insight with that as well. It was so fun shooting it, so fun recording it,” she reveals.

But her favorite memory of them all had to be while she was on set for the video, which she said was filmed in freezing temperatures in the middle of November.

“It was 20 degrees outside in the middle of November. We filmed some of the scenes outside and I had a tank top on and shorts on. Everyone on the other side of the camera had gloves and hats and mittens and hot little things you put in your gloves and I was just there standing in a tank top and shorts,” she recalls. “Everyone was like ‘oh my gosh I’m so cold’ and I was like “y’all are cold? My arms are out, my legs are out… I’m in shorts and it’s 20 degrees.’ I will always remember that we filmed it in negative degree-cold weather.”

Break It Like A Man” trails a slew of singles, including “Sparkle”, “Yard Sale” and “Oh Say Can You See” – a single referencing her performance of the National Anthem at 11 years old dubbed as the “worst National Anthem performance ever.” She’s more than ready to lay that chapter to rest and show off a new side of herself.

“Honestly, the difference is channeling the actress part of me that I have always really enjoyed doing as a little girl. So getting to kind of incorporate that creative side into the music video as well as introducing this more gritty side of me. So incorporating a little bit more of that edge, I hold within. So I’m excited for mix of everything to be put out into the way,” she says.

Aside from releasing new music, Harper has had a busy spring filled with moments she’ll never forget. Just this month, the Texan’s dream of walking the red carpet at the 2024 CMT Music Awards on April 7th, which she tells Celeb Secrets was something she’s had on her vision board for years.

“I’m taking it all in. This used to be a childhood dream of mine,” Grace tells Celeb Secrets host Juliet Schroder on the red carpet. “I used to make dream boards all the time — I still make one every single year — and walking the CMT [Awards] red carpet has always been on there so to be able to check it off the list and take in this experience as the first is a true blessing. I’m excited to be here.”

In a room full of celebrities and talented musicians, Grace revealed that the top two attendees she couldn’t wait to see inside were Cody Johnson and Lainey Wilson, who also happened to be top nominees that evening.

“It’s been Cody Johnson and Lainey Wilson,” she said with a smile. “Cody because I am a down-home Texas girlie and I just feel like it would be nice to meet a fellow Texan; and Lainey because she is a firecracker. She is spunky when she gets on stage. She is so entertaining and she’s incredible. As a female artist it’s really nice to be able to look up to someone like that.”
