Lucas Grabeel starred as Sharpay’s fashionable twin brother, Ryan Evans. In 2020, director Kenny Ortega confirmed Lucas Grabeel’s character in the film, was indeed gay.
“We decided he’s probably going to come out in college,” Ortega told US Weekly. “It was less about coming out and just more about letting his true colors come forward.” While “HSM” was not ahead of its time, it taught us that we can’t rush someone’s personal timeline.
Now, Lucas Grabeel returns to East High to play Ryan Evans in High School Musical: The Musical – The Series.” He also became a voice actor for Family Guy and Elena of Avalor.
