With the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards just days away, Spotify is continuing to celebrate the emerging talent nominated for the Best New Artist category with its Spotify Singles series.
Throughout the week, Spotify has collaborated with a variety of the BNA-nominated artists on exclusive recordings, with each nominee reimagining one of their own hit songs, as well as recording a cover song as a tribute to a past Best New Artist nominee.
Today (March 29), Spotify is continuing the celebration with two tracks from country phenom, Jimmie Allen. For Side A, Jimmie Allen has re-imagined his song “Best Shot,” his inspiring debut single that propelled him to Nashville stardom. Side B is a cover of 1994 Best New Artist nominee Toni Braxton’s “Unbreak My Heart,” a twangy acoustic take on this iconic ballad and one of Jimmie’s all-time favorite songs.

“It’s super cool when you’re recognized for doing something you love,” Jimmie shared in a statement. “As for ‘Unbreak My Heart’ – I love the song; it’s one of my favorite songs ever. I’ve always wanted the opportunity to sing it, this is my chance, hopefully, Toni approves.”
Spotify has long been a supporter of Allen, dating back to when Spotify invited him to perform at the 2018 CMA Fest showcase. Since then, he has been a staple on Spotify’s flagship country playlist, Hot Country, and has been supported through IRL activations (he was featured on Spotify’s Times Square billboard in 2020!)
The release of both singles is coupled with an interview on “Spotify: Mic Check,” where he opens up about overcoming barriers, the influence of his family, and the evolution of country music, which you can listen to below.
