Karrueche Tran is officially adding “rapper” to her resume.
The Emmy Award-winning actress, beauty mogul, and all-around fashion icon is turning heads once again, but this time as a platinum-selling rapper in Lifetime’s newest original film Terry McMillan Presents: Preach, Pray, Love that’s premiering this Saturday (November 8).
The flick follows platinum-selling rapper Charlisa “Charlie” Jones, played by Tran, whose flashy persona and fiery lyrics have landed her more headlines than harmony. But after a stint behind bars, Charlie finds herself serving court-ordered community service under Pastor Kyrus Owens (Mark J.P. Hood), a charismatic and devoted minister fundraising to build a new home for his congregation.
Despite their worlds being miles apart, an undeniable spark forms between them. And as their romance blossoms, Pastor Owens’ congregation begins to question his commitment to the church, while Charlie struggles to reconcile her edgy public image with her growing desire for redemption. It tests faith, forgiveness, and fame — and gives Karrueche her most musically daring role yet.
“I’ve never played a rapper. I’ve never rapped. I’m not musically inclined in any way,” Karrueche tells Celeb Secrets with a laugh at the Raising Cane’s Giant Pumpkin Unveiling Event in Hollywood last week. “But it was a great challenge. I studied a rapper named Lola Brooke, I prepared myself, and I did it. I think I did a pretty decent job!”

Despite the nerves, Karrueche says the experience reminded her what she’s truly capable of.
“I learned that I can do anything I put my mind to,” she shares. “I was anxious because I wanted to do the character justice — but once I focused, I realized you can do anything when you really go for it.”
The 37-year-old’s confidence perfectly aligns with the movie’s message, and we can’t wait to see what Karrueche, along with fellow cast members Tobias Truvillion (Lust: A Seven Deadly Sins Story), B. Simone (Harlem), Reginae Carter (Pride & Prejudice: Atlanta), and Da Brat (Envy: A Seven Deadly Sins Story). Under Terry McMillan’s (Waiting to Exhale, How Stella Got Her Groove Back) guidance, the story blends soulful redemption with unapologetic self-expression — a balance Karrueche seems to embody effortlessly.
