Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets have spoken out regarding the horrific Brooklyn subway incident.
The incident occurred at around 8:24 this morning in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn, mere blocks away from the Nets’ training facility. Durant and the Nets were en route to the facility to practice for their play-in game tonight against the Cleveland Cavaliers, at the Barclays Center.
That’s when they noticed all the traffic, even more so than the usual heavy Brooklyn traffic. After finding out that a man on a northbound N train had released smoke bombs and opened fire on the passengers, injuring at least 29 people, they were horrified.
It’s devastating,” Durant said. “I don’t know the details. To hear the sirens out front of the practice facility and see so much commotion going on outside, you hope and pray for the best for everybody involved.”

Even more alarming was the fact that the suspect, said to be a 5’5 male wearing a green construction vest and gas mask, escaped and is still on the loose. Durant and the Nets organization condemned the incident.
“It’s obviously a very tragic morning,” Nets coach Steve Nash said. “We’re devastated for the community and for those directly involved. I don’t know a lot of the details, so I don’t want to get too far into it, but we’re just all concerned for everyone involved. And at the same time try to prepare and be focused on our task at hand.”
“I hate violence, I hate senseless violence,” Durant continued. “Hopefully we can figure out the details and get everybody to safety and get everybody the help that they need, but it’s a tough situation right now.”
“I hate senseless violence… you hope and pray for the best for everybody involved.”

This incident affects the Brooklyn Nets arguably more than any other team, as their training facility is located mere blocks away from the 36th Street station where the incident occurred, as previously mentioned, but it can also affect their game tonight at the Barclays Center.
The game, scheduled to be played tonight at 7:00 EST in front of a full arena, is pivotal for the Nets as a win advances them to the playoffs, and a loss forces them to play a do-or-die game against either the 9th or 10th seed. Multiple subway lines are shut down due to the incident and will continue to be shut down, so fans should expect a hectic atmosphere in and around the stadium tonight.
