The queens of social media have spoken. Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner took to their Instagram accounts yesterday (July 25) to urge the platform to stop imitating TikTok.
The reality stars reposted the statement in their stories, supporting Instagram account, Illumitati’s message regarding Instagram copying TikTok. With over 1 million likes and a petition link on the post itself, it reads, “Make Instagram Instagram Again. (Stop trying to be TikTok i just want to see cute photos of my friends.) SINCERELY, EVERYONE.”

Instagram has recently made some changes to the platform to compete with TikTok as its rival. Some of those changes include pushing account users to utilize the “reels” video feature, which dominates algorithms and makes it challenging to find traditional photo posts.
The head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri has gotten wind of the complaints from users and replied to them via his Twitter account today (July 26), stating,
“There’s a lot going on, on Instagram right now. We’re experimenting with a number of changes to the app. I want to be clear, we’re going to continue to support photos. It’s part of our heritage. That said, I need to be honest: I do believe that more and more of Instagram is going to become video over time. If you look at what people share on Instagram, that’s shifting more to videos over time.”

Between Kim and Kylie, the business moguls have over 600 million Instagram followers. The app is also known to have helped the Kardashian-Jenner clan secure their business ventures, as each sister uses the platform for advertising their companies.
The Kardashian-Jenner family has an impactful influence, with Kylie Jenner tweeting in 2018 that she was no longer using the platform Snapchat after a redesign. Soon after, Snap’s shares fell 7 percent, losing the company more than 1 billion in market capital.
