LeBron James has officially spoken after Kyrie Irving was dealt to the Mavericks. James sat down with ESPN’s Michael Wilbon to express his frustrations towards the Lakers inability to acquire his former teammate.
James played with Irving from 2014 to 2016, and the duo had some great moments together, including leading the Cavaliers to win an NBA championship in the 2015-16 season. With that said, the ex-teammates had some turmoil towards the end of their run together as Irving requested a trade from Cleveland following the 2016-17 season due to frustrations he had involving James.
Over the years, it seems as if James and Irving have been able to rekindle their relationship back to a good enough level to play with one another. However, that test of seeing if the two can pair up again is still on-hold after the Lakers could not complete a deal that would have brought Irving to Hollywood.
With James publicly acknowledging his frustrations, some more problems may occur in the Lakers locker room. Having a teammate calling for management to bring in someone from another team can be seen as very rude, so someone like Russell Westbrook, for example, may grow even more frustrated with the way his teammates and the organization have treated him in his first two seasons as a member of the Lakers. Westbrook was rumored to be the headliner in a potential Irving swap with the Nets.
Now, with the trade deadline scheduled to occur on Thursday, perhaps Westbrook will request a trade, and maybe the Lakers may feel more pressured than ever to try and acquire a star to play alongside James and Anthony Davis.
