Lena Stone Says Her New Single “Make Up My Mind” Includes All The Things That She Loves (Exclusive)

After making her pop debut roughly one year ago, Lena Stone continues to raise the bar with the release of her new song “Make Up My Mind.”

The prominent new track, which showcases a level of acceptance in knowing that not all things are meant to last, will be a part of Stone’s anxiously awaited debut album, due out this spring.

“[‘Make Up My Mind’] was actually the first song that I wrote for my upcoming project,” Stone shared with Celeb Secrets in an exclusive interview. “I wrote this song back in 2019, so it’s the oldest song on this upcoming collection.”

“It set the tone for this project before I even knew what way I wanted to go with it, and I was just writing to explore some different directions. It’s all the things that I love, it’s dramatic and cinematic but there’s also a confidence to it. It’s a really good introduction to the next chapter that I’ve been kinda saving in my back pocket.”

Although Stone has been holding onto this track for a few years, she made it clear that its message of being in a relationship that you know isn’t built to last is still important to her. And with her heartfelt lyrics and love for music, she hopes that listeners and fans can resonate with the story as well.

“I hope that is song makes people feel less alone, in the sense that this track is about a relationship that I was in when I was… 20 years old maybe? I was super in love with this guy who was in and out and up and down, like on and off all the time. And I didn’t know how I felt and I was so conflicted and so torn,” she said.

“I wanted to have a song that talks about when you’re just in the middle of this whirlwind. I hope that it feels relatable to someone who is going through these hard times, and it makes them feel like, ‘oh okay, I’m not alone, this has happened to other people, it’s going to be okay.’”

“Make Up Your Mind” is the follow-up to her previously released tracks “Details” and “Wrong Place,” along with her pop debut “Attention,” which are all going to be featured on her soon-to-be-named full-length project. As for what fans can expect from this album, Stone says that if she could describe her upcoming work in three words, they would be “pop, polished and pink.” But along with that, it’s been a different journey to write this album than it has for her past works.

“I’ve been in Nashville for 10 years now, so I think it’s very fitting that this album is coming out at this point in my career,” she said. “I’ve released 2 EP’s in the past and countless singles, but this is my first full-length project and the mind space is really different, at least for me, to go into the studio and make a longer project.”

“You need to have different sounds and feelings, but they also need to have a common theme. I loved strategically working on this album over the course of two years and putting all of these puzzle pieces together and then sitting back and saying, ‘okay, what pieces are missing or what do we need to build on?’ It was an intentional process, but I also just got to play and explore and figure out what I wanted to say and how I wanted to say it without having a strict deadline, and I think it turned into something really beautiful.”
