Lizzo is feeling “Good as Hell” after releasing her brand-new single “About Damn Time.”
The fun disco–funk song is true to the sound from Lizzo’s previous releases, however, the lyrics of the new song are hidden by the upbeat tone of the music. In the lyrics, Lizzo showcases her struggles as she says, “Oh, I been so down and under pressure. I’m way too fine to be this stressed, yeah.” She continues the song by reminding herself that she is back now and better than ever.
The Grammy Award-winning artist released a music video to coincide with the track’s debut and it 👏 is 👏 everything 👏. Directed by Christia Breslauer, the visual starts with Lizzo in a “Stressed and Sexy Support Group.” When she’s asked to share the poem she wrote, she runs out of the room and begins singing “About Damn Time.” Dressed in sweats, she stares at another version of herself in the mirror who seems more confident — and suddenly — she is wearing the same sparkly jumpsuit the mirror version of herself is wearing.
The singer dances through the halls of the building, and at one point even brings out her classic flute. The video ends with Lizzo back in her sweats and with her excited to go back into her support group and thrive.
“About Damn Time” will be featured on the “Truth Hurts” singer’s upcoming studio album, which she said will be named Special and arriving on Friday, July 15, 2022. The news adds to her already exciting week ahead, as she is set to take the SNL stage as host and musical guest this Saturday, April 16th, on NBC at 11:30 ET/8:30PT.
