Luka Dončić Restrained After Altercation From Heckling Fan

Dallas Mavericks’ star Luka Dončić had to be restrained by team officials last night after a heckling fan got to his head.

After leading 60-58 at halftime during Game 2 versus the Phoenix Suns, an aggressive Suns fan wearing a Devin Booker jersey began heckling Dončić, shouting obscene and “reckless” language at the All-Star. This caused Dončić to snap, and had to be held back by team officials and other security personnel to ensure nothing bad occurred.

It is unknown exactly what the fan said, but it is known that Dončić was dealing with the heckling all game long, by numerous fans. In front a sold-out crowd in Phoenix, Dončić went back-and-forth with the fans on multiple occasions, including one instance where he told them to “settle down” after nailing a three-pointer.

It’s arguably not a good look for Dončić and his team when he allows the opposing fans to get into his head, something that he was trying to avoid. Following the incident, the Mavs lost control of the game, and ended up losing by a blowout score of 129-109. This put the Suns up 2-0 in the series, and they look to go up 3-0 in Dallas tomorrow night.

“He was just saying some reckless things, man,” Dončić said. “I’m not going to repeat that. A lot of fans say that because they know we can’t do anything. If it was something normal, I wouldn’t even look because I don’t care. Sometimes you’re in a bad mood and they say bad stuff, it’s normal, we’re people, and it’s normal to turn around and get mad.”

“He had a great game, but no one else showed,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said of Dončić. “We’ve got to get other guys shooting the ball better. We can’t win with just him out there scoring 30 a night, not at this time of the year. And we’re playing the best team in the league, so we’ve got to get other guys going.”
