Mad Welsley is known to perfectly blend country music’s storytelling elements with infectious pop melodies. The Nashville-based pop artist has done it again, but this time with a new theme under her belt. Keeping the hits rolling with her latest single, “What’s The Deal?,” Welsley has given listeners a love song that differs from her previous heartbreak anthems.
The new jam perfectly encompasses the racing thoughts that flood our minds when a new relationship is blooming. The tune is one you simply won’t want to miss and you can listen to the track exclusively on Celeb Secrets today.
“‘What’s The Deal?’ is the disco-dance song I’ve always wanted to create,” said Welsley. “It’s a true anthem for anyone in those exhilarating, beginning stages of a relationship that you really hope will work out. I’ve spent years writing break-up songs because I always felt that writing something happy was far more difficult, but one day I was driving and this song just spilled out of me. I hope that everyone turns up the volume on this one and dances around their living room to it, or blasts while driving with their windows down, because it’s definitely not a sit-still-while-listening kind of song.”
So “what’s the deal” with Welsley’s incredible talents? According to a press release, the magic in the music comes from her ability to tell a story with her lyrics first.
“She approaches writing all of her pop tracks like she’s crafting a country song— focusing on the story to be told with descriptive, honest lyrics,” said the release. “It’s only afterward, during production, that she punches it up with catchy pop melodies and hooks.”
Welsley shared with us that the final punched up product wasn’t all recorded where fans might assume.
“A lot of the main vocals that we used for the final master were the original demo vocals that I recorded in Jonathon’s bathroom with couch cushions leaning against the walls, which is actually how we record most all of our songs. It’s pretty great.”
But whether Welsley is singing her heart out in her producer’s bathroom or on a stage, the artist truly is one-to-watch. And fans will be able to watch Welsley on a stage this fall! She has shared with us that beyond this track she has big plans for this year.
“This release is the first of about five new singles I have planned to come out each month now until February of next year,” said Welsley. “I’m also getting back into playing more shows this fall and I hope to kick that into full gear next year.”
