The coveted Miss Universe crown goes to Mexico’s Andrea Meza!
One the eve of May 16, the 26-year-old model and certified makeup artist took home the big win with an even bigger smile when her name was called on the prestigious pageant stage at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL
Hailing from Chihuahua City, Meza is educated in software engineering and she uses her skill set to push boundaries for women’s rights while serving on the Municipal Institute for Women. According to the Miss Universe website, Meza’s work is especially tailored towards ending acts of violence with gender-based motives.
“I am so honored to have been selected among the 73 other amazing women I stood with tonight,” Meza says in a press release from the Miss Universe Organization. “It is a dream come true to wear the Miss Universe crown, and I hope to serve the world through my advocacy for equality in the year to come and beyond.”
The 69th annual Miss Universe pageant united empowered women from 74 countries across a wide array of categories at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL. Show viewers across over 190 countries got to see Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi (aka the longest title holder of all time) as she passed her crown along to the next contender in line.
Although the event was delayed in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, organization reps couldn’t be more excited to honor a brand new recipient. “It is certainly emotional to see the crown begin a new journey tonight with Andrea,” president Paula M. Shugart said according to the news release. “After a year unlike any other, I am so grateful for the extra months we got to spend with Zozi, and I know Andrea will reign with strength, ambition and grace.”
Today (April 17), Meza is busy making her move to New York City where she will advocate for charitable causes while acting as the freshest face of the Miss Universe Organization.
